The MDS light availability is different depending on whether your truck was built in St. Louis, MO or Warren, MI. End of Nov. 08 for St. Louis and end of Dec. 08 for Warren. Hope this helps.

Given the cycle of MDS on to off can sometimes be very fast I have my doubts as to the usefulness of such an indicator.

All 09 hemi's have MDS, also the light on mine (SLT Crew Cab) is below the display and only lights up when the MDS is active.

All 2009 Hemi's do have MDS. Just because you don't have the indicator light, does not mean you don't have MDS. Not having the indicator light is just part of the price you pay for getting a first model year vehicle. Certain features were intended to be standard equipment, but were late to be released. Similar to the locking tailgate and backup camera, the MDS indicator light was added after the first few months of production.

If you don't have an indicator light and you're curious about when MDS is operational, a good rule of thumb to follow is that it is working when you are going downhill with the wind at your back. Otherwise chances are that you are in 8 cylinder mode.

2500. I don't believe that they have the MDS.
You might want to also check in the 3rd gen section since you still have basically a 3rd gen. Don't know if your interior is any different, but the exterior and all should be the same.

I know in the 3rd gen someone posted up about tapping into the MDS wire and putting a light in so they know when it is activated.

So long as you are on somewhat level ground and steady throttle with little load on the engine, MDS will be working. In my Charger I could always tell when it was active due to change in exhaust note and also being able to slightly feel it. I could be going 80mph on the interstate and it would be riding along with MDS active. The main thing is to have very little load on the engine and be going a steady speed.

On the new trucks they have done a terrific job of making the transition to MDS mode seamless.
