Spark Knock Recall Notice
Ok, looks like there is a software recall that has been declared by Chrysler on the 09 Ram, at least mine anyway.
I am not sure what the reason is but they call it spark knock recall. It is a software update that should take about 30 minutes to perform. I don't know what the problems or symptoms are.

Dr. Bill,
Which engine do you have in your 2009 dodge truck. Tonnage
How and who notified you...
I try to keep up with recall info for my and my daughter's vehicles.
I have seen 2500 and 3500 tie rod issues for Dodge trucks...
This is new, could you expand.
Just odd, I have some really good info; I thought; and I do not know about this recall

Blue,
I spoke to the service writer after I received a card from them. The card said that the manufacturer had previously attempted to notify me, but the inspection had not be performed. I bought the truck as a demo on 12-31-08. It went into service 10-30-08. It is possible that a notice went out to the dealership since I have only owned it a month.
It has the 5.7 hemi 1500 crewcab. It was built in September, 2008 at Warren. I really don't understand this recall because I don't have the paperwork from Chysler. The dealer said that it is software only. Hopefully someone received the notice and can shed more light on the matter. The hand written card looks like it references a 09-004 or-009 inspection is due. That is all that I know.

Just got the same thing in the mail today.
Bought the truck 2 weeks ago.
Card says RRT 09-004, called to schedule an appt and they said the same thing, it was a software reprogram that should take no more than 30 min.
Have a '09 Crew Cab Laramie 5.7L Hemi...sucks because I was just there...literally an hour ago picking up my registration card.

It is not a Laramie thing. It may however be limited to the 5.7 engine. Has anyone received the notice for an engine other than the 5.7?

This is why buying a new model the first year is not sometimes the best idea.
Sounds like the timing is just a bit to advanced if it is a spark knock.
Anyone able to produce it? If so does running 93 get rid of it?

Hey Ohio,
I thought the same thing. I asked the service writer if this was a deto thing and he said no. Heck, I can't think of anything other than deto for a spark knock. This may have something to do with the new hemi for 09. I have never noticed any deto in my truck, but it is not easy to hear in an EFI. I use 89. I want to know more about this software change and what it changes and why.
