Want tough???
The best way to make your truck not only look tough, but to be a bad mother is a lift kit with small wheels and big tires. More tire allows for more traction, and lets you deflate your tire pressure more for rocky or slippery off road applications. Big wheels also weigh more and provide a larger area to mess up or get caught on rocks and brush. Anyone who knows something about four wheeling will view your truck as fraudulant.
Having said that,
For one lift kits for these things are too new and expensive right now; however, Im willing to bet you can squeeze some 35 x 12.5's under there with little to no problems, exspecially if you are not going to be off roading in it. You can get some decent 17"s and tires for around $1500-$2000.
For two, it is your truck and you should do what makes you happy. If looks are your concern and not performance you can put 30" spinners and bump rap music in it if you want to. Nobody else has to drive it or like it.
Some cheaper mods would be a bull bar, nerf bars and a roll bar to toughen it up a bit. Check out these roll bars.

lol... I hear 'ya man.... No spinners here... I'm looking now at either getting 20" A/T's or a set of 17's and A/T's or M/T's depending on what I can find used. If the rim/tire deal doesn't work out I have a good deal on some Zeon LTZ's to get more aggressive tread. Also order a few other small nick knack ****e on the side..
I'm on a budget now so a lift is out of the question. Gonna have to keep whatever I get under a grand.
