hey chad. welcome to DF.

I have a feeling what you are hearing is the MDS. when 4 cylinders cut out aftermarket mufflers tend to make the exhaust sound kinda bad. i'll move this over to the 4th gen ram section, they should be able to give you more advise.

It's the MDS on the verge of just staying engaged. Almost sounds like its surging. I think its normal. I have a flowmaster 40 and it does it too. You just couldn't hear it with the stock muffler.

Nothing to worry about as the others said. You can do searches on this subject and ever since 2006 people who want a louder truck will say it comes at a cost of the strange MDS sound.

I noticed a while back RGVram99 posted he purchased a Magnaflow part #12278 which is a 3" in and dual 2.25" outs. Now chadz is saying he installed part #12198 which is a 3" in and dual 2.5" out. Does anyone know which is correct. Im hoping the earlier one because thats what I ordered.
