Extended Warranty
I can appreciate Ryan’s point; it if valid across a broad spectrum of purchases, in fact for insurance of any kind. If you have a history of selling/trading in a relatively short time then it makes no sense, after all you have the basic driveline warrantee which is free with the Dodge.
On the other hand, if you have a history of keeping vehicles for a long time, then that is a different situation. In my younger days I didn’t pay any attention to warrantees, if it broke I simply fixed it my self as I had the tools and knowledge to do that. Now, these things are so complex with so much involvement by the computer systems not to mention the incomprehensible cost of major components that I can no longer expect to be able to do that. I have literally jumped at the chance to buy the maxcare lifetime to back up the driveline warrantee. I have a 2001 Town and Country that I bought an extended warrantee for. I truly wish I had been able to buy the Maxcare lifetime back then as it is about to run out and will just be too expensive to renew. Obviously I keep vehicles a long time and will continue to do so. Unless Dodge welches on this bet, it should be the last truck I ever buy.

I don't know how they worked everyone elses deal, but im a little irritated or jelous that there are people that got 13k off sticker when I got 7,500. I bought an extended warrenty that is basically bumper to bumper for 6years, or 85,000 miles. I got 5.79 interest rate, at the time it was 0% for 3 years and 3.99 for 48 months. I bought the warrenty because these trucks are all electric and I have seen some nasty looking repair bills to fix electronic systems on cars. I think my warrenty was just over 1k.

Get out or there he recoqnizes you as a first timer, brings someone with you that can ask questions. At very worst I believe the warranty can be cancelled within 90 days but I am not sure. I got 6 years bumper to bumper no deductible for an extra 2 grand C that includes tax.
I have debated even coming back to this thread, mainly out of anger but the quotes post above makes all too much sense for me not to tell you all what went down when I went back to the dealership.
I will round all my numbers since I don't have accurates in front of me.
When we first went in, we got 5.49% interest rate, then his manager told him he gave us the wrong rate and we should have got 7.5%. So instead of making it 7.5% he offered us a 3 year additional warranty to make up for it. We got to keep the 5.49% got a addidional warranty (Monthly payment $469) and my monthly payments were the same as if I got 7.5% with no warranty.
I guess the way of looking at this is, we bought our interest rate down.
When I went back Monday, I was not completely satisfied, not sure why exactly. Probably just the guilt you feel after spending a bunch of money, right?
This day he offered us 4.5% with a lifetime warranty. Monthly payment of 458$ a dollar cheaper than the 5.49% interest rate. I worked a deal at getting the truck for 25,500$ including tax title and whatever. We boguht the lifetime warranty which shows up on paper as $4,500 but my monthly payment would be the same with a higher interest rate and no warranty. We financed almost 30k for this vehicle and I'm not going to sit here and dwell on what so and so got for theirs.
I am thinking of doing a return on the warranty, not sure if I would get the $4,600 back or not. Would anyone besides this finance manager know why the warranty showed up as $4,600?
Would you return the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty?
No... I would keep the Lifetime extended warranty and ask for $3000.00 back as the Lifetime with a $100 deductible cost around $1600.00
Here's how I do it:
1. Know how much the truck should cost by comparing deals at a minimum of three dealers.
2. Know your credit score and what interest rates you should qualify for before going to the dealer.
3. Research the extended warranty "options" and "price" online and through the different dealers as mentioned above.
They are just playing with numbers. If your interest rate should be higher, they can not give you a lower one! The interest rate is dictated by the finance company loaning you the money, not the dealer!
The only thing you can do is tell them you feel you have been screwed with and you want the Extended warranty for a few hundred over dealer cost. That is fair and far far less than $4600.00
Who are you financing through? Call them and ask what rate they gave you.

Sales people will always ask you what payment you have or had in your current vehicle so they know what your used to. They will use that information to their benefit.
If they ask, tell them that that has no bearing on the current deal.
If trading in a vehicle, tell them you are shopping your trade. Don't tell them what you owe on it because, once again, that has no bearing on what they give you for it.
I have learned over the years to go into a dealer and tell them how much I need for my trade to do the deal. Of course I already know what a good deal is on the vehicle I want to buy.
Never mix the two. Get the true trade in value of your trade. Get the true selling price of the vehicle your buying and then you have your deal.
I just picked up my 2009 Ram last night! I love it! However, as usual, the dealership offered two separate add ons for my vehicle.
The first one was this Simoniz5 vehicle protection. They apparently spray the outter vehicel to protect the paint from weather and natural elements, as well as the interior to protect from stains. They cover it for 5 years with a warranty. Is this something worthwhile or a money scam? Are they car care products out there that do the same thing (protect from the Suns UV rays from damaging clearcoat finishes).
Secondly, they offered the extended warranty for my vehicle. They offered a 7year/70,000 mile warranty for about $1,400 or the lifetime maxcare warranty for about $2,800. Is this something worthwhile? I plan on keeping my truck for a very long time and the lifetime powertrain warratny was one thing that sold me on it. I think the maxcare lifetime warranty might go well with this?
Hope to hear your thoughts and thanks for your help!
