Default Extended Warranty

Hello all, me and my husband just picked up a brand new 09 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 Hemi on Saturday. The dealer is still negotiating with us and offered us an extended warranty that will add 3 more years for a total of 6 years or 72k miles. Do you think this is worth it and the $2999 they are charging for it? We have never owned a Dodge so are not familar with their reliability.

Thank you.

Don't walk but RUN from that deal!

I paid $1600 for the "lifetime" Maxcare.

They want $3k for three more years or 72k miles! They should be ashmaed of them selves for pulling that stuff on a loyal customer who would purchase a truck when the company itself is in bankruptcy!

I'm disgusted!

How much did you get off the sticker price on your truck? Averages are $10k - $13k

WAY overpriced. I paid about $1,000 for 7yrs/60K miles. The lifetime warranty at my dealer was "on sale" for about $2,000

Thank you for your very fast responses.

The price tag on the truck was $38,900. I negotiaged $25,300 out the door, includes all my tax tags blah blah. Extended Warranty brings me up to $28,300. I am under the impression that if I waive the extended warranty he will increase my financing rate from 5.99% to 7.49%.

What happened was he put in 5.99% and then his manager told us that based on our credit it should be 7.49% so he added in the extended warranty to keep the monthly payment the same.

When I called back this afternoon, he said it is optional and I can remove it still if I want, but it sounds like I'll have to accept the interest rate hike. He also wants us to come back in and sign a new sales agreement because he got us a better deal. I am not sure what he has in store yet, but I'm open to it, so I can get this extended warranty issue taken care of. Chances are I will deny it.

I guess I should break down how I got the discounts.

My husband works for union, that took off about 4k and we did a trade in, that was another 5k, and they gave us loyalty and the general rebate which equaled another 5k. We are getting loyalty because my mother who uses my address for residency has a Dodge. We have to bring in her registration today.

Yes, that was very misleading, trade ins should never be part of the "I got my truck for x amount of dollars". When other rmembers work deals they need to know what you paid for the truck less a trade in.

Oh, and yea, no on the warranty.

So tell me what I should be doing? I don't think it's too late to negotiate even more, we got the truck Saturday.

If you took delivery, and more importantly, signed papers you are locked in.

I'm sorry, I don't understand how the Extended Warranty has any effect on the interest rate that is given. If you're financing for 60mos you get rate X. If you're financing for 72 months then you get rate Y, which would be slightly more than rate X.

Maybe I'm missing something here?

If I were you I'd look into other financing options through a bank or credit union and get a copy of your credit report unless you already know what your credit is like.

EDIT: Nevermind it took me to long to post my reply

He asked us to come back in this afternoon to do up new documents because he has a better deal for us, so anything is up for negotiation.
