Default Oil Change Due

I was driving yesterday and I just hit a little over 2500 miles and the Oil Change Due Message popped up on the dashboard. Does that mean my oil is dirty or is there some way to set the dash to make the Oil Change Due message come on after a certain amount of miles?

I think the computer determines when the light comes on depending on driving conditions. I have 2600 miles and mine hasn't come on yet.

I know that on my Grand Cherokee you could set the miles you wanted. I had mine set at 4000.

I changed mine at 3000. Now I change mine at 5,000. You can reset the dash mess.
Its in the manuel. I believe you turn the key and depress the accel.pedal 3x's before 10 secs.

So far I have driven over 4900 miles and my oil change signal has not come on yet. Do you do a lot of towing with your truck I have heard that might make it need to be changed sooner.

The truck calculates (estimates) when the oil needs to be changed based on your driving habits. This is mainly based on whether you do a lot of city (repeated acceleration) driving, drive aggressively, drive at high speeds, or tow. I'm at 4,900 miles with no oil change due. I believe you can get up to 7,500, on regular oil, before you need an oil change with the Hemi.

I pretty much drive in the city 95 percent of the time. I towed a boat around for a weekend. Maybe that's why it came on. I'm going to read the manual and try to change it. I thought brand new vehicles didn't need to get there oil changed until 7,500 miles.

When the oil is dirty the computer lets you know its due to be changed, They use a sensor and based on resistence to flow it turns the warning on , after the oil change you can reset but turnning the key on and stepping on the gas without engine running 3 times then turn key off then back on.

Make sure you use 5W 20 oil, at least that is what mine recommends and 7.7 L or it. I am hearing this years hemi has a new oil filter too. So make sure you check your manual and get the right one. Nice these trucks are so high off the ground you can climb under there. I intend on doing oil changes every 5000KM no matter whether the light comes on or not . I will do it before if the light does come on. Willl keep receipts and dates and maybe take it to the deal at least once every 6 months or 10000K so the warranty is covered. So the truck will get lotsa oil changes....good investment.

I don't think that's the way this system works, but I could wrong. I'm pretty sure I recall reading that it was basically an estimation/calculation based on your driving habits. Anyone want to back me up with details?
