real world MPG info
thank you very much Chris do you have a CC/Quad/or standard? that is the same I got in my '90 chevy truck with the 5.7 engine...though this engine has a "bit" more power and the truck weights a lot more! So I guess you can call that an improvement.
that highway mileage is very good I think

The 3.21 gears are not going to be as quick as the 3.92's but from 25mph on up the thing screams. I only tow about 4500lbs once a month so the 3.21 gears are no problem for me. If I towed daily I would have went with the 3.92's for sure. For my application the 3.21's work great, I can average 21mpg when we go on vacation (all hwy) and still tow when I need to.
ousig2408, I have just under 3000 miles on the truck. My job allows me to work from home 3 days a week so on Monday's and Fridays I drive to and from work. This is truely 50/50 driving for me, half way on the highway but due to traffic I take off and go in the back way. I have been avg 14.5-16mpg. On weekends we do a lot of running around and almost all of it is stop and start. The best I've gotten in this type of driving is 13.7-14.2mpg. I really don't worry to much about my milage in the city anymore since I save so much by working from home. I do worry about my hwy milage though since on a trip you will most likely fill up 2 to several times on the trip. I have towed my trailer once since getting the ram box truck but did not hand calculate the milage, but the EVIC showed I was avg 14.5mpg. That was in tow/haul mode @ 70mph using cruise. The trailer is a 16' car hauler and I have two 4 wheelers and a yamaha rhino 660 on it. I'd guess around 4900lbs. All in all I am very happy with the truck and it's performance. Jeff.
thanks Jeff, sounds like the mileage with the 3.92 gears is right in line with what trucks have been getting for years now with maybe a bit better on the highway due to the mds.
thank you all for the info, really helps to hear back from real people in real driving conditions not reading magazine articles.

I own a CC/Hemi/2 wheel drive with the 3:21 gears and the best highway mileage I have seen was 23 MPH (with strong tail wind). Around town it ranges from 11 to 14 and going against the wind on the highway it hangs around 16 to 18 MPG. I know the reports say our trucks are best in class for areodynamics, but it's pretty windy in my neck of the woods (live near the Texas coast) and the truck creates alot of drag. I wonder if a bed cover would help my fuel economy. As far as performance goes 3:21's are OK. But, if I could do it over again, I would definately opt for the 3:92's with the LSD unit. My truck feels real slow under 40 mph and then it screams all the way to the governed 107 cut off. As soon as the programmers are out and come down on the price, I would buy one for sure. These trucks feel like they can pull all the way to 120 mph no problem. You can pretty much kill all other trucks on the highway.
I have a Q cab with the 3:92. and a Leer box on the back
I just came back from a 1800 km trip(1200 miles) round trip
on the way up i mostly ran the CC at 120km/hr (75 mph) and averaged 12,9l/100 or 18mpg
on the way back I had a heavier foot and drove at 130 to 140km/hr(80 to 85mph) and I averaged 13,9L/100 or 17 mpg.

I can certainly live with 16 - 20 mpg on a truck like this. the 3.55 gears may be the best compromise but it would be nice to have the limited slip with the 3.92 gears. hopefully they will start dealing on the '09 soon with the '10 models coming out soon.
I have 4x4, 3.92 gears, and have seen 15-16 around town and as high as 19 highway at speeds of 70-75. Probably won't see that too often, but 18 would maybe be more a more accurate average on the highway.
great looking truck! 20 mpg highway would be nice but 3.92 gears and 4x4 make that tough. too bad the 3.55 gears do not have limited slip. I am really struggling with getting 4x4 or not or 3.92 or 3.55 gears...there are a few times/year hear in Dallas that we have bad ice/snow. I would HATE to not be able to drive my truck because it was 4x2 or 3.55 gears...my last truck was 4x2 and was ok most of the time except when it rained or winter weather.
guess i may need to suck it up and deal with the mileage and get a 4x4
