Default real world MPG info

hey guys - I am still looking to replace my current Acura ('99 TL) but I wanted to hear some more real world - hand calculated MPG #s. I would like to see just how this truck will change my everyday budget and this is really my last question. right now I get around 22-23mpg with about 50/50 driving. I would hope after a while I could get around 18 with the truck. especially after learning how to keep it in 4 cylinder mode as much as possible. I have read on here anything from 12 - 20 mpg. are the upper teens really possible on a daily driver basis?

Not with my truck it isn't. I get 14 to 16 mpg with 50/50 driving. I have the 5.7 with 3.92 gears.

maybe the HEMI and 3.55 gears would be the best for economy - or I wonder how much they would really help. I would like to have the limited slip...

Get the 5.9 Cummins and you'd be close.

The numbers below are as real as you can get them, hand calculated, from full tank to full tank. I have a 5.7 HEMI with 3.55 gears, most of the driving being done in the Vancouver BC area, just to give you and idea about the nature of the terain (lots of hills). I have about 6000km on board, and the results were pretty consistent every time I did the calculations. I had experimented with 89 octanes gasoline as well as 87 and didn't find a significant difference, even though with 89 the engine seems to run a bit better.

City driving (80% city / 20% hwy) = 15.2mpg to 14.25mpg depending on the trafic conditions
Hwy driving (85% hwy / 15% city) = 21.5mpg to 19.5mpg
Towing a 4500lb travel trailer = 12.5mpg to 10.7mpg depending on the terain

I can't say I'am driving like my grandma to church but I also don't burn rubber. I try being as light as possible on the gas pedal and keep the "Fuel saver" light on as much as I can.

thank you very much Chris do you have a CC/Quad/or standard? that is the same I got in my '90 chevy truck with the 5.7 engine...though this engine has a "bit" more power and the truck weights a lot more! So I guess you can call that an improvement.

that highway mileage is very good I think

I have the CC Hemi with 3.21 gears and get 21mpg hwy and 15 city. I usually average around 17 mixed with 75% city and 25% hwy. I took a 150 mile trip last weekend and got 21 mpg all hwy. This is the best mpg truck I have ever owned, I had a 2003 hemi and that thing could hardly average 14 hwy and 11 city. lol...

how are the 3.21 gears with low end pull, accelleration around town? seems that many people with the 3.55 gears want the 3.92 because the truck feels "slow". i do not want to race but I also want it to feel like it has 390 hp...
