Stuck in 4th gear
#31
Having a similar issue and just dropped mine off to the dealer. Only has 553 miles and has become stuck in 4th gear while driving, mainly slower speeds. Auto stick locks up, cannot put it into drive, and only way to get it back into drive is to completely shut it down and then restart. Engine light came on (not flashing) this time so took it in. Other threads point to a PCM issue. Once replaced sounds like it fixes the issue.

My truck has been at the dealer since Monday afternoon for transmission repair. So far it has been in four times for the 4th gear sticking problem. It has been an ongoing problem since it had 1200 miles. 1st time they coudln't duplicate the problem, second time I took it in while stuck in 4th gear, they reflashed the control module. Third time they said there was a preassure code diagnosed, replaced a preassure sensor. Fourth time they said I needed a valve body replacement which is why it is at the dealer now.
I am getting tired of the run around, and not getting the problem repaired. We'll see if it is repaired this time. Maybe it will also fix the problem of not moving when you put it in gear when it is cold.

Back in the shop again! Stuck in 4th when I got in it after work today. I drove it to the dealer in 4th and left it with them. Has anyone ever used the lemon law before. Lemon laws vary from state to state so Tennessee's may be different from wherever you may be. I like everything about the truck ecxept the 9 visits back to my local 5 star dealer for transmission trouble since 7/30/2009.

Stuck in 4th or limited to going no higher than 4th?? I can't imagine it drove very well if it was in 4th all the time.
Lemon law varies from state to state as you noted, so you just need to research your state's situation. In MN you can qualify if the vehicle is in the shop 30 total days in two years or if the dealer has tried to fix the same thing 4 times and failed. There are a few more qualifiers too.

It is really slow from a stop when you are in 4th gear, but the dealership is only about 2 miles from my work or home so I try to get it in to let the service manager verify the problem while it is happening. The first few times it happened I couldn't get to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem.
And to answer your question, when it happens it goes immediately to 4th when you put it in drive. It has never gone through the shfting process up to 4th and stayed in 4th.
