Still undecided
+1
I really try not to bash on particular brands, and I used to be a ford guy. My ENTIRE family and a lot of my friends are still in the ford camp.
But over the past year or two, I've been really mistified by fords design choices. I mean they just look rediculous. The whole 3 bar grill that they're slapping on everything looks dumb, and I hate the chrome edging that they're putting around the tail lights on the f-150's and escapes, etc... The interiors (particularly the dash area) look cluttered and cheap. The sad thing is they had to really work to get them that ugly.
Honestly I never considered buying a dodge until I saw the 2009 F-150. Back in 2008, I had decided the color and package and options of the F-150 I was going to get, and was just saving up a little more money. Then came ol' ugly Agnis and I neary had a heart attack. In retrospect, I'm glad it worked out this way though.
But yeah I totally get you on the ugly harley package. Just another one in a long line as far as I'm concerned.

Coming from a die hard Ford man, I am very happy with my decision to go with the 1500. Prior to my purchase, I had the opportunity to browse all the different trucks at the State Fair auto show and could run back and forth in minutes. I agree, the new F150 design is awful and being a Harley man too, there's no way I would have wanted that hidious HD model.
When the dust settled, the clear winner was the Ram. I loved everything about it, and I have crawled over every inch of this truck looking for anything I could find that I would consider substandard. It's just not there. Everything is well built, and even though I had a little water leak issue I'm still sold.
Not to mention the deal I got on the Ram. My long time Ford dealer couldn't get within $5k for a similar option F150, so the choice for me was a "no brainer". Looking back, there are a few things I would "like" to have that I didn't get (dual zone A/C, REN, soft dash, etc), but other than that I'm please as pie!

Lol lot of Ford bashing. My 2 biggest reasons for the Ram are the Rambox and Hemi.
From my pricing, I can actually get a Ford slightly cheaper. I get employee pricing on Ford but not on Chrysler.
I'm really intrigued by the rambox. I have yet to find one near me with a rambox I can actually look at. I see you can fit a set of golf clubs in it which is nice because the place I take my boat has a golf course I go to. I typically carry more things like that then heavy cargo where I'd need a truck bed.
My next question is, do they make a tonneau cover for the trucks with the rambox?

As far as the ramboxes, when I was shopping for my truck, I really didn't want one with them but the only truck around in the color and options that I wanted was this one. You will be AMAZED how much stuff you can (and probably will) keep in there. So much more than just golf clubs! I carry way more stuff now than I ever did in my explorer.
I'm trying to think of all the junk I have in them at the moment. A big well equipped 300 peice medicle bag, 100 foot rappelling rope, rappelling harness, 2 large self spooling tow straps, fire extinguisher, 2 big tarps, large extreme cold weather boots, sevel pairs of gloves and misc knit caps and cold weather gear, large rachet strap, lots of bungie cords, a big fully equipped tool bag with tons of sockets in almost all sizes of metric and standard, 6pt and 12pt, deep and normal sockets, and tons of other stuff like pliers and screwdrivers, hammer, wrenches, prybar, level, ammeter, map torch, hand saw, drill bits, MRE's, canteens, chemical lights, flourescent shop light, ghille suit, and all sorts of other little everyday things like ducktape, string, and what not. And there's still room for more!

It's amazing how often you use your tools when you just have them with you. And though I hopefully never need to use any of the other stuff, at least it's there if it's needed. And if you were to look around in my cab and in my bed, it looks completely empty. You would never guess I had all that crap with me. (Which is really nice)

Former Ford guy here, had 3 Ford F150 4x4 prior, all in the 04-08 model years. Nice trucks but for 09, Dodge hit a homerun with the Ram 1500, I think interior is now nicer than F150 - a reason why I passed up on an 04 Ram Sport. Also, nice to have a truck with a set of nuts on it from the factory, something Ford never figured out yet on any of the 4x4 lines but teases with the rumored 6.2L only available in the SVT Raptor next year.
COIL SPRINGS + HEMI=Winner (if you do not truly need the 2500 load carrying/towing capacity). Better gas mileage, performance and comfort.
If you need a bruiser of a truck a couple times a year, rent one. MUCH cheaper option.
If you do need a 2500, there was no need to ask about the 1500, you will never be happy with it.
If you're cutting balsa wood for a model airplane, you don't use a chainsaw. If you're cutting down trees, you don't use a knife...

Hands done the Ram is the best truck b/w the two... I did the whole test drive, price comparison, apples to apples comparison gauntlet when my father in law was looking for a new truck last spring, and the only truck that compares is the tundra, and imo, it is still sub par to the Ram. Currenlty, I think it goes Ram, Tundra, F150, Chevy, Titan.
