As far as the ramboxes, when I was shopping for my truck, I really didn't want one with them but the only truck around in the color and options that I wanted was this one. You will be AMAZED how much stuff you can (and probably will) keep in there. So much more than just golf clubs! I carry way more stuff now than I ever did in my explorer.

I'm trying to think of all the junk I have in them at the moment. A big well equipped 300 peice medicle bag, 100 foot rappelling rope, rappelling harness, 2 large self spooling tow straps, fire extinguisher, 2 big tarps, large extreme cold weather boots, sevel pairs of gloves and misc knit caps and cold weather gear, large rachet strap, lots of bungie cords, a big fully equipped tool bag with tons of sockets in almost all sizes of metric and standard, 6pt and 12pt, deep and normal sockets, and tons of other stuff like pliers and screwdrivers, hammer, wrenches, prybar, level, ammeter, map torch, hand saw, drill bits, MRE's, canteens, chemical lights, flourescent shop light, ghille suit, and all sorts of other little everyday things like ducktape, string, and what not. And there's still room for more!

It's amazing how often you use your tools when you just have them with you. And though I hopefully never need to use any of the other stuff, at least it's there if it's needed. And if you were to look around in my cab and in my bed, it looks completely empty. You would never guess I had all that crap with me. (Which is really nice)

Holy crap, that is lots of stuff. You really carry all that? I guess if you need it. How much extra weight do you think that is?

Default Keep the Silverado and get a Hemi

What turned me on to the Ram last year was the updated interior and I'm glad they brought that to the 2500. I was messing around on Dodge's website, and with the same options, I can get a 2500 for the same MSRP as a 1500. My question is, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the two? In terms of towing, my boat and trailer weighs about 5000 lbs max. I'm sure the 1500 would handle it fine. I currently have a 2005 Silverado HD with a diesel. I was looking at getting the diesel but not sure it's worth the extra 7k. I don't do any serious hauling. Basically odd trips to Lowes and carrying around supplies when I tow the boat. That was another reason why I liked the 1500. The Rambox seems to be a feature I would use instead of throwing my gear in the bed and letting it slide around. I'm assuming the 2500 loses the smooth ride of the 1500 due to the lack of the rear coil suspension. Is it that big of a downgrade?
I have a 2009 Laramie Ram 1500 CC with the Hemi and love it. Pulling up to 6000 lbs is not a problem. I have read a few post from owners that have put on rear air bags to reduce sag and improve towing. I could see that being helpful. The coil suspension is great for ride quality but does sag and bounce just a little with my 600 lb. tongue weight.

My real question for you is why do you want the expense of a new truck? When you already have a 4 year new 3/4 ton diesel with a Allison transmission that will pull almost anything. Plus the new emissions on the diesel trucks have really been a problem for the casual diesel user. I'm interested to see how the 2010 models handle the emission problems the 2007-2009's have had.

So keep the Silverado for towing and get a Ram Hemi for everything else.

Yep, and some other stuff. Idk how much it all weighs. The tool bag is by far the heaviest. I'd say 50-60 pounds easy. All the other stuff isn't really that heavy, just a lot of it. I'd bet all of it is less than 200 lbs.

I'll probably be cluttering up the cabin soon too. I want to install my laptop and some other gear when I go storm chasing next spring. I've always wanted to take a solid month off to go do it and have fun and have never had the chance, so it will hopefully be quite the experience. That truck will prob be stuffed to the gills then!

Well, at least you'll be storm chasing in a great truck and wow that's a lot of stuff...didn't realize just how big those rambox compartments were.

Yep. Hopefully I can avoid the hail. And yeah, the boxes are big. On the rear end, they go all the way down to the bottom of the tail light if that gives you an idea from the outside. The front end's aren't quite as deep, but still spacious.

How much do they stick into the bed, if at all? Width I mean.

They're the width of the wheel wells, so they don't go in any farther that that. The interior width of the bed measures 52" across.

Well I have decided on a 2010 Ram. I'm going with the Laramie crew with the Rambox. Going to order the truck. Trade in on my Silverado is 15k. Pretty much what the dealers are offering. Private party value is 20k so I'll try to sell it and see if I can squeeze a couple grand. The truck is completely paid off so anything I get will come straight off the Ram.
