HD's are a whole different animal. The front driveshaft is always spinning on those (even in 2wd). Our 1500's have that central axle disconnect that keeps the front driveshaft from spinng (better gas mileage, less wear and tear), also why you can't shift into 4wd unless you are under 45 MPH. The 2500's / 3500's only really start to have driveline vibrations at over 6 inches of lift. You should have no issues on a HD.

Nice that info make me even more excited about getting a HD. Only problem now seems to be locating one. So far my dealer here in NJ can't fine one within 350 miles with all the options I want, will prob have to be a custom order.

Also I think my manual stated you can safely engage 4x4 mode at speeds up to 55mph not 45mph, Ive engaged it multiple times at speeds of 60-65mph without any issue.

Also last ? related to this topic. When in 4x4 mode on the 1500 and you make a sharp turn in a parking lot at slow speeds it feels like the front axle is going to snap, the truck almost kind of hops along. Ive been told this to is normal for the type of 4x4 drive the truck has. My ? however is whether or not this same short coming is present on the HD 2500-3500 rams. As of now when i get of the highway in bad weather and pull into a parking lot I have to turn off 4x4 so that I can park my truck. Pulling into a parking space feels like im going to snap an axle.

That's why you should NOT make sharp turns with 4WD turned on, if you're on a high-traction surface. You really shouldn't have it in 4WD at all on a high-traction surface. Any turning on a high-traction surface with 4HI or 4LO engaged is hard on the gears. The tighter the turn, the harder it is on the gears.

I don't know if the HD's have the 5-position transfer case as an option, but if they do, it sounds like you should get it. The 5th position adds 4WD Auto. That's what you need if you're going to put it in 4WD and drive on pavement.

Default 09 Dodge ram

I have the same issue now after installing a ReadyLift 2.5" leveling kit. Before i never seeemed to have a problem, now i just installed the kit and had 4x4 on without noticing and took off on the road and felt the shutter pretty bad. Enough to get me really mad about putting this lift kit on. Goes away when in 2 wheel drive, but still annoying when in 4x4, i live in canada and i need my 4x for those snowy days. As i can see its the leveling kit causing this just from googling, for now ill keep her in 2x4 and take it easy i guess, hard with a hemi.

My 09 has this in 4x4 as well. Not objectionable, but noticable. My 04 QC also had the same issue.

sorry if this is an old post coming up
i am new to the forum and searched out this topic

EXACT same issues as some are reporting
in 2wd no issues, switch into 4wd and when i accelerate it shudders so hard, but as the speed increases, its not as noticable

also live in Canada, so driving in 4wd is a must in the winter

i have a levelling kit on mine (sorry dont know which one, had it installed professionally...not at the dealer tho)

so by the looks of things its a design flaw in SOME of the 09's? and the levelling kit only makes it worse?
dodge is doing nothing about it???

hey man, sorry to hear that u made the same mistake as me. i also baught a 2009 ram 1500 sport and it was the worst truck i have ever owned. it makes the 4x4 shutter and i have 3 buddies that have the same truck and same thing in 4x4. I also had it in 3 or 4 times and same answer theres nothing wrong and then the service manager said they all do it. I still called "bull****" and asked to test drive more trucks and i was shocked they all did it. I cant belive dodge are not doing anything about this. I have a $50,000(canadian) peace of JUNK.

It dosent end there bud It now has 15,000km on it and has a vibration at highway speeds im 100% sure it is drive shaft problems. the truck is in the shop for 2 days now and im still getting the answer "we cant find anything wrong"

This truck has never seen dirt road and has been babied never been drivin hard and is falling apart and rides like a 1988 ford f150. will never buy another dodge again
