Default LSD/Gear Change quote

factory style locker $395
Detroit locker $685 - dont know what kind?
$590 for 3.92 regear, oil additive and everything. Parts and labor.

Going to find out if the $590 includes the master install kit. also what kind of locker the detroit is (hopefully truetrac) and how much an auburn is? is it even worth installing the stock LSD?

Sounds pretty fair to me. If you are paying for the swap, I would without a doubt go with the detroit trutrac.

Can't go wrong with Detroit. Had one in my last truck and that thing was amazing.

Gears should be $200-300 (they will be more if they're mopar) and master install should be about $100, and you can get the DTT for about $525. Who is giving you the quote?

The master install kit includes a lot of things, here is a link to one http://airram.com/product.php?catego...&productid=171. Yes you should get a master install kit when changing the ring and pinion. They are going to be pulling out your old open carrier and replacing it w/ the DTT or locker, and they will take out the old ring and pinion and then put in the new one's. What size tires are you planning on having b/c you might want to get 4.10's or 4.56's?

The most important thing when dealing w/ a new ring and pinion install is to find a shop that does them on a regular basis b/c they are not an easy job any mechanic can do. I suggest you find a local 4 wheel drive shop that does them on a regular basis. Paying a little more for parts isn't bad when you get them through the shop doing the work b/c then they can't blame anyone but themselves if it's wrong.

When people simply say detroit locker, they usually mean a real one "The detroit locker" A truetrac is pretty much like having no locker at all, a lot of money for nothing.

Truetrac is an LSD. It's a really good LSD, but an LSD nonetheless. The detroit locker is selectable, either open or completely locked.

A detroit locker is in no way selectable. It's an automatic dog clutch locker. The only mass produced selectable lockers around are the ARB, OX, Yukon Zip Locker and the Eaton E-locker.

A true track is only an LSD in the sense that it slips ( a whole lot). Rather than clutches it uses a hokey helical gear setup. Never met anyone who owned them who liked them - been at least 3 guys in my club who have thrown them away. If you want an LSD, then an auburn is a much better choice.
