The final answer on if the factory brake controller works on a 2010
Got an email from the service manager. He says they had a talk with Chrysler/Dodge about my controller. I guess cause the early build date, they can't make it work, without a $99 part. So taxs and all, I'm looking at $330 total? (and 3 trips to the dealer) NO! If I had known that I wouldn't even messed with it! IT'S NOT WORTH IT! Ford gets 230 for theirs. Chevy's is cheaper. You buy one in a Dodge 230$, and you don't pay the MSRP on it when you buy the truck! I asked if it would work in my truck (a 2010), they said shouldn't be a problem. I told them I want it taken out, and the little cubby hole put back in, just like it was. And a full refund. $223. Or, the owner of the dealership can come up with the money. (the $99 plus taxes) I'm not paying any more. Not all 2010s are created equal.

Well after reading all this I can't wait to see what the dealer tells me Monday since I want the factory brake controller installed in the truck I haven't actually bought yet! They said they "have to check". I'd prefer to not have a box under the dash like I have on my current truck. No idea on build date. All I know is its a 2010.
I have been going bACK AND FORTH WITH MY DEALER ON THIS AND ACTUALLY A COUPE OTHERS IN THE AREA. tHE FLASH IS WHERE IT MESSES UP AND WILL NOT RECOGNIZE IT.
I am curious what the $99 part is. If you can get this info may clear it up

OK, my bad. I re-read his message. It pretty much says the guy told him how he can make it work, what to do. So, NO PART. Pretty much hard wiring like they do here, I guess. So, they can't upgrade my truck to what MOST the 2010s are??!! Um, I mean, it should cost me the same for this option for my 2010 built on Sep 10 09 as say somebody whose was built in Jan. I'll just put one where that tiny cuby is behind the shifter, where it makes more sense anyway. Well, if there is no wires under it? Shifter/invertor

Thanks Ken, but I can't do a thing about it from here...overseas. Either I wait till I get home or straighten it out with them. I can tell you if I pay $99, no, wait, can't see it happening, if I do it myself and they send out some customer satisfaction survey, it'll be a Dodge fail. He wrote me back after I told him I want if fixed or refund, goes on about it being an "after the sale" install. Yeah, I know that, but then he can just give me back my money, not MY FAULT Dodge doesn't know whats going on! I asked if something that was an option for a 2010 truck would work, they said sure. How long did it take you to do that, anyway? I woulda thought they woulda also checked it to see if it works-there has gotta be a simple tester they can hook up?
Maybe the 2010 Ram CC I'm thinking of purchasing was an early build? I asked the salesman how much to install factory brake controller and he said......
".....met with the Parts Mgr. about the trailer brake question...Mopar does not currently have a kit to do what you want to do..It is unavailable and there is no time frame that I could quote you...Aftermarket is the way that you'll have to go........."
Now whether this means they are out of stock or never had one I can't say......
Yet another stumbling block in my attempts to buy this truck.........must be an omen.....

If you decide to get one, get it in writing. i waited til 3 monthes later, salesman said that will cost 230 or less, after he got with parts people and service, service manager now says takes another $99. Dodge is so far behind on this. You would think they would know which VIN trucks got what wiring harness. I tried to call the owner of my dealership. Out til Monday.
I'm of the opinion they don't know what they're talking about, but that's just from reading this thread.
I bought the truck sans brake controller. Wasn't a deal breaker for me. Sure, I'd rather have the factory installed unit but whatever.....
