The final answer on if the factory brake controller works on a 2010
I noticed on a commercial for a heavy duty and they show the cluster and it says trailer brake on 35psi or something that. Not sure exactly what it said after Trailer Brake....but It was a number and some letters.
I think the evic just displays the amount of power applied to the trailer brakes (%) and if there are any errors.
I have towed a couple times and the factory brake controller works just fine..

If you have an 09, the grey connector has nothing to do with the trailer brake. On the 09, the trailer connector is blue and of a different size.
Months ago, I connected a 2010 controller on my 09, can bus and all. It did not fully function so I removed it.

I paid about $223 for parts and for my dealer to install. Had no brakes at all, lever or foot, and nothing on the EVIC. And I had to tell them I had nothing, wouldn't that be like the last step for a tech, to test and see if it works? At $70 an hour, by the book? So I drag my trailer down there so they can see it doesn't work. The service guy says he will call my wife when Dodge gets a flash. Well, after reading this, I would think flash or no flash, brakes should work, just no EVIC info? Appears I might have a bad one. Might be like Wobly and not work at all in my truck built Sep 10th. They told me it would work when I bought it, they asked no questions about build date. That was over a month ago a drug it down there. Just called the dealer, he says still waiting on a flash. I explain that newer trucks then mine already have a flash. Well, bottom line, when I get home, it'll either work, or they can try another. Just hope they have the other so I don't have to wait. if it won't work at all, after what I paid, they can take it out, give me back 100% what I have in it, and return everything to stock.

Do you have both plugs? That is a pretty early build, some only had the larger one. You have to have both plugs connected or the controller will do nothing. Just take a look up under the dash and see if they are both installed into the bottom of the controller. It is easy to see, the plugs are installed on the bottom.
And yes, it should still work without the flash so something is definitely wrong.

My truck was a Sept '09 build for my 2010. I only had one plug and had to hard wire the other wires in. It can be done, just not plug and play. I would roll under the dash and look up, are there 2 plugs in the controller, or just one and an empty hole?
I don't know how many plugs my truck has, I'm overseas, the truck is back home. But I paid for them to install the controller in May or April. Good thing I didn't really need to use the trailer last time I was home...I wanted to see how she'd tow! I offered to help a friend move, but she could only move on the weekend we had already bought plane tickets to go west for a few days. I was trying to give my dealer a heads up to check the hook up, and controller. He has my Email address. THEY should be trying to make it work, I should not have to do any looking. If they can't make it work, well, maybe they can but think it's not a by the book procedure, take the thing out, give me a full refund, and they oughta throw in the wire to connect a regular controller. When I do get home, I want to take my wannabe racecar over to a friends house to get it race ready. I'm not a fan of towing without trailer brakes, even if it's only 3800 pounds. Not in those hills. The dealership would have to figure if it is a bad controller, if I get to jacking with it, no money back for me. If I did get another tho, I know where it should go, behind the shifter on my console. And I'd do something to dull down the shine of that shiney ring around the shifter, paint or something.
Any instructions on how to hard wire the other plug would be greatly appreciated.
