Taking it to the dealer with a problem that was caused by something done elsewhere is not gonna help you ever, not now, not later. They would just love to have some dirt on your truck in case something does go wrong with anything to do with the rear end now. Warranty would be voided right then and there. Like showing your hand in a poker game. Go to where you paid to have the gears put in where before you went the light was not on and now it is. Let them try to fix it first and spend their time and money.

That's what I was thinking 72. I'll press the local shop guys for as long as I can. Worst case, if they just can't figure it out, then I'll take it to the dealer. Even then I'll wait a couple of weeks and take a few trips down dirty roads to get the grime back on underneath. Showing up with clean spots under there would be a dead giveaway that someone's been doing work.

Well, after going around and around with the shop, I see my options with them are limited. They want the truck for 2 days minimum (during the work week) to look over it and get with Dodge engineers to come up with a solution. They're taking the stance that the gears require the ESP system to be reengineered or the computer to be reflashed because the number of teeth on the 4.10 gears is throwing everything off. Total bull**** and I called them on it, but I think they're actually believing what they're telling me, which is sad and scary. Of course this is the same guy who swore up and down that the gears were going to throw the speedo off by 10+MPH unless I bought a $500 Superchip programmer. Needless to say, I'm done with these guys. I'm going to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer to get it fixed next week some time.

I would be real careful taking it to the dealer, if you tell them that that the gear was changed you may be causing yourself a big headache down the road even if you are paying cash.

If you dont tell them and they find out you swapped gears then its a bigger headache if you try to get it fixed under warranty.

I would have another 4wd or performance shop have a look at it and make sure the other shop didnt damage a sensor. Its pretty easy to do on some axles when you push the axle in to put the clips on the axles if you dont remove the sensor first. You can also get a piece of metal stuck to the magnet and that can cause issues.

Its also possible the rpm and mph not matching is causing an issue with the ABS/ESP system. First thing to do would be get the codes, if its a wheel sensor code at least you know where to look. Not sure if the generic code readers like at autozone will read ABS codes on these.

Ya don't run to the dealer just yet check around maybe somebody else has had this issue and solved it. Even if you just make some calls to rear end shops and see. I would not lie to the dealer about the gears they should know what they are dealing with up front I agree with kpevin on this one.

Any chance you could reveal the name of the shop so the rest of us will know who to avoid?

I wasnt sure if you needed a starscan to get the ABS codes, the aftermarket software I have does all GM modules for codes.

There is an independent shop with a starscan here I see advertised since a few of the dodge dealers closed. They are on eBay all the time for ~2500.00 so I'm sure a few independent shops have them around the country, and you can get newer flashes for a fee off the internet so its not dealer exclusive.

If you cant find someone just go to a dealer and ask to read the codes (not fix anything) and just pay them for that.

i dont know about the esp but the gear change is going to throw of your speedo and odometer, and it will not be a set amount the faster you go the more it will be off.also it is possible the esp needs to be reprogrammed for the new gears because youve changed from the factory settings

I think you over estimate how much teh dealer is going to look into this. Take it in, find out which wheel sensor it is and they will likely replace it with no questions asked. Bad wheel sensors are a common problem - believe me I know.
