Default ESP/BAS Reset?

Yesterday I had a local shop install 4.10 gears and an Auburn Pro limited slip. After the install everything works great and the truck pulls like a mule at take off, which is awesome!

The only problem is the ESP/BAS light is on in the center gauge cluster and the ESP off light is lit down on the right bottom side of the gauge cluster. I've pushed the ESP Off button several times, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Last night I disconnected the Neg battery terminal for an hour, but the lights are still on.

According to the manual and a friend at the dealership, it should have turned off with a day or within several 30+ mile trips. Is there anything I can do to reset it, or do I have some kind of problem on my hands that I need to take it back to the shop?

If it wasnt on before then something they did made it go on. If there is a fault it will not go out no matter what, the light being on is warning you the ESP isnt working.

my guess would be they forgot to plug in or damaged a wheel speed sensor

Hmmm, so a wheel sensor eh? Are there any other sensors involved that they should check? I took a look at the parts they gave back from the install and didn't see anything that looked sensor-like.

Where exactly are the wheel sensors? I'd like to crawl under there and give it a look just to see if they forgot a wire or something.

First thing to check is if they are plugged in, there is one on each end of the axle housing. You should see the wires running to them, its the only electrical connector near where the caliper mounts are. Should be easy enough to see from underneath, make sure they are plugged in all the way.

They wouldnt have replaced them doing the gear, but they have to slide the axles out and they could have damaged one or unplugged it and not plugged it back in.

And yeah its definitely the wheel speed sensor. i had unhooked one of my speed sensors to see if it would turn off the esp and the same thing that your describing happened.

War Horse, did you get this figured out? Has to be one of the sensors either unplugged or damaged.

I took a look under the truck and found both sensors. Unfortunately both are plugged in snug and tight. I didn't try to take them loose and reseat them, figured I'd break more than I could fix. So, it's either something loose on the other side next to the brake, or just plain broken. I'm going to call the shop tomorrow and get an appointment to get it fixed. Hopefully they know what the heck they're doing when it comes to these things.

LOL! eh!

Thanks for checking that out. At least I can point the shop in the right direction and hopefully save some time.

Better off taking it in to the dealer. They can plug it into the scanner and tell which wheel sensor is not working.
