Default Lost my oil drain plug....messy.....Long read!

So I went to the dealer (86 miles from my house) for an oil change and an inspection sticker. Could not find my registration in the truck so just got the oil change. I sat in the nice uncomfortable hard backed chair for over an hour, until I got up and went over to the counter and asked if they were almost done with it. He couldn't tell me. I told him I can change it myself in my driveway with a lift in 15 minutes, and it should not take an hour. Low and behold in a few minutes he came out with the keys. So I drive home. Flash forward 3 days. I am driving home, almost in my driveway, and suddenly notice that there is no oil pressure. I actually backed into my driveway and got a smell of burning oil. Noticed a puddle forming under the truck when I got out. Got a flashlight and looked up under the truck. Oil all over the bottom of the truck. Look at the drain pan....No drain plug.
7 qts of nice fresh oil....Gone. I am betting the guy never tightened the drain plug. Oil pressure might have helped push it out?

Called the dealer, asked for the manager. He tells me that in his 10 years there it has never happened. I must have stripped the pan. WTF...Dude I says, your place is the only one that has changed the oil and the truck only has 18000 miles on it. So after a bit of getting heated, he says to bring it back and they will do another oil change for free.... What? Exactly how and why would bring my truck back there? I mean I had to find another drain plug put in another 7 qts of fresh oil. Now he wants to change it again. I told him I would see him in another 6000 miles and they can do a free change then. He tells me they need to check the truck ASAP for damage. So now I have to drive 86 miles south again to see if there is damage or they won't cover any warranty issues later...Another WTF came out of my mouth. Maybe they should send a truck up to flatbed it down there....?
Unreal.

I'd make them send a tow truck. (And disconnect the battery so they don't try to start it).

Have it towed, make them pay for it and document everything.

Running out of oil can be a disaster. I had a buddy who trashed the engine on his T/A like that. I'm not sure what can be done to test the health of the engine but I'd go with the other suggestions to get it towed to the dealer and make them do something to find out if it is OK.

My dad had the oil changed in his S-10 at one of the quicky lube places. He didn't make it 10 minutes away when suddenly lots of clacking and smoke. The oil change place offered to replace the engine (which they did, but with a rebuilt one that had serious rear main seal issues). In the end, his attorney talked to the shop and they ended up buying his truck for KBB retail value. I learned a lot about the value of doing your own work from his misfortune...

i hate to say this, but i think you may have made a mistake by bringing this to their attention. as stupid as it sounds to not bring shotty service to their attention, i'm thinking if they report the incident to chrysler it may shift your lifetime warranty obligation onto the dealership. we all know how precarious the situation these dealerships find themselves in these days. they may not be around a year from now, especially with that type of service...

That engine is toast, they would be buying that truck if it were me.

I would backtrack and see where the line of oil starts. You should be able to CSI together the senario. Did it happen on your block, or way back further. If it puked out in front of your neighbours house I would say you are good since you said it puddled when you pulled in, so it must not have been empty yet.

i would go ahead and call your dealer that did the service and have them arrange a tow truck to pick it up and have you a demo ready so you have a truck to drive, and they need to steam clean the underbody of your truck to clean all the oil off

if they dont want to respond to that then ask them who your lawyer needs to contact
