chrysler cover up!! read this
If you are acceptable to the liner then have a look under it in a year or two if you drive it and use it like a truck or even if you don't that thing wiggles around back there acting like a huge sheet of sand paper. You will see bare metal that won't rust cuz it's constantly being sanded.
Complaining and getting a lineX is just a good thing. You aren't happy they made you happy you could have said shove the truck and get me another. Even if you put money down. That is not what you ordered. Tell them if it happens again don't ship it. Just rebuild. You are holding the cards. That is a great thing to have happen when you think about it. Hiding nothing....dealer knows they should be the one to tell you why you have a free bed liner. I will bet even if you accept the liner the dealer will charge Chrysler for paint or linex anyway. Explains why the pile of bedliners behind a dealership I have driven thru. So if someone wants one they have them in stock. It was for a while you go pick up your truck no matter if ordered on on the lot. I have looked at a truck had no bedliner or bug guard and when I pick it up has both and like almost a grand for the two....I say take them off and replace grill because you screwed holes in it. I agree to accept them for free but not paying deal off, not only that I got some free oil changes and paint sealant undercoating rustproofing the works as an apology for trying to pull the bedliner over my eyes. They dont do it anymore, They ask now.

Yes your right I would believe them! I guess to me the bed isn't that big of an issue. The liner is the fix. You would rather them fix it with paint. They chose to fix it with a liner, as do the other 2. I hate to brake it to you guys ALL companies have the "what can we get away with" policy. It is what it is...
The "other 2" sell more trucks than Ram. The "other 2" have better quality ratings than Ram, as well as a public perception of better quality. This isn't about the "other 2", this is about doing things the right way. The attitude you have is a pretty common attitude within Chrysler, and it's a big part of why it's got the bad rap for quality that it has. Things that have been common practice in the past need to change.
Your sig should say as much. How about selling a product on it's own merits, as opposed to who built it?
I'll put a 4th gen ram against anyone in the quality dept. I seen the build changes from 3rd gen to 4th. It was short of a miracle. The other 2 are much bigger companies, and have far more dealers. Just because someone sells more doesn't make them better. Mcd's sells far more burgers than 5 guys. But 5 guys is the far better product.

Look at JD Powers. Only Nissan(a relative non-player) ranked worse in initial quality than Ram. The F-150 and Tundra killed them. I'm not one to put all my stock in the "un-biased" studies these 3rd parties perform, but the bottom line is that Chrysler is lagging, and has lagged in quality for a while. They are making strides....but **** like this cover up sure as hell doesn't help.
Ram isn't going to outsell the F-150, but losing market share isn't exactly what they want to do either. They want to gain on them, that's an absolute fact. They are gearing everything they do at Ram to compete with Ford. Pissing off people with shoddy paint isn't a good way to start.
Welcome to a launch. Those are common. So far the new GC launch has been a debacle as well. I have been through about 4 launches while I was at Chrysler. For about 4-8 weeks we only would build 4-20 trucks an entire shift. Normal production was 400 a shift. So yes there are always issues in the launch. I have owned an 02, 04, 05, 08 rams. Now I have a 10. Hands down the build quality is far better. As I no longer work for Chrysler I am no longer beholden to buy them. When I was looking for a new truck I looked at a f150, and a sierra. The f150 looked cheap, a ton of road noise, and was more expensive, and had a lot less in it than my ram. I also get A-plan discount through ford. The sierra wasn't too bad. But it also was far more expensive than the ram for far less equipment. Also had a cheap look to it, and the ride and handling was awful.
I could care less what jd has to say. I know what I saw with the other 2. Very happy with my choice.

I worded my post carefully, but I guess it didn't matter. I know launches are typically rife with issues, which why a explicitly stated that this was well after launch. Not Fall 2008...not even spring 2009...this was a good year after the 4th gen launch in the fall of 2009.
You may not care what JD has to say, but I can promise you a lot of people do....including the upper management at Chrysler. The fact that this type of cover up **** still goes on at the plant level is an issue in itself.
It's obvious we aren't going to agree on this. It blows my mind how many people think this is an acceptable way to deal with a problem.

There are things that happen sometimes that cause a ****ty score in JD Power if for some reason they don't get the right amount of vehicles to test. I think it's the first 200 or 2000 sellable vehicles. If they don't meet the amount they score is lower. I worked at the Bvan plant in Windsor and we won the JD Power once I know for sure but another year we had issues at the plant that did not allowus to get the minimum off the line. JD Power said if we had the right amount of vehicles we would have won for quality hands down instead of last...so that does not mean too much.

JD powers was just an example...Chrysler routinely finishes lower than it's direct competitors in most 3rd party quality metrics.
It is a big deal. I've had to have warranty work done, paint and otherwise, and it's a pain in the butt. I'm understand that things happen. But when you are aware of a problem and decide to cover it up rather than fix it....that's a symptom of a larger problem. "Everyone does it" isn't an excuse anymore, you are in direct competition with "Everyone," and their cultures are all changing as well. You need to be better than Everyone, especially as the underdog.

The most common problems in the bed are dirt in the paint (due to the bed being hard to keep clean), and overspray from the roof and tops of the box. Like I said we all have problems. I'll put my ram up against any of the others. I chose to buy a dodge over the other 2.
