I plugged my thumbdrive into the port on the face of the radio. I *think* the one in the glovebox is only an iPod or iPhone interface.

This is the first one I actually like! I am usually very disappointed in a factory system. This one came with the mygig/Alpine system with a sub under the rear seat. Probably the nicest sounding factory system I've heard. My wife's Camaro is a close 2nd if not even par with it.

I've never seen a aftermarket that had the same fit and finish, without a major dash mod

Hi everyone. I have a new 2011 Ram and love it so far. But, I have a few questions about the iPhone interface capabilities.

First of all, I have the same issues reported here with the Bluetooth. Most of the time it plays the music too fast and at a much lower volume compared to radio/HDD/Disc at the same volume setting. This would be no big deal if I could use my iPhone without problems via the cable which brings me to.....

When I plug my iPhone 4 into the glovebox USB it takes forever to 'read' my iPhone (or the iPod part of it) and more often than not I get an error. When it does work, it works fine but it seems to be totally hit and miss. Very flaky.

In an earlier post, somebody said you could copy your music from the iPod to the HDD directly. How? That would solve my problems; I'd just use the HDD.

Any suggestions (or sympathy!) would be awesome. Admittedly, I'm still figuring things out with the system but I don't think it should be complicated. Thanks.

There is capability issues with newer Ipods with a lot of stereos. My older nano works just fine, my touch, no chance. Same issue with my CTS-V. I have the same issue with Bluetooth streaming, plays too fast. Odd?

It's not intended to work like that. If you have an iPod and want to play music directly from it you need to hook it up via the dedicated iPod cable. The USB port is for plugging in USB 'mass storage devices' like a USB thumb drive so that you can copy music files to the radio's hard drive. I don't believe you can play any music file directly from a USB drive either.

I will say though that I don't know the 2011s well. If they replaced the dedicated iPod cable in the glove box with the USB port (versus just adding a USB port) then what I said above may be invalid for 2011s. It does pertain to 2010s though.

Have a 2011 1500 and have the same issues:
For the streaming issue where it plays too fast I found that you have to have the ipod in sleep mode or blacked out and then it plays at normal speed if you try to do anything on it then it speeds up.
For the USB connection in the glove box it is hit or miss. I would say it works 1 out of every 10 tries or start ups. I have used my Iphone 3Gs and Nano both have worked, but they tend to not work and just get the message error occurred. I asked the dealership and they really had nothing saying turn the car off and unplug and replug in. Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not.
If anyone has a fix so that the USB port in the Glove box always works I would love to hear it.
Thanks!

This is correct. There is only a slot, no cable anymore.

My 5th gen iPod nano and old iPod classic w/320g HD have worked using one of the cables I had in the house.

My 2010 has a mini-USB female plug in the glove box next to the ipod plug. It's for updating/upgrading the firmware on the Lockpick. I put it there so I don't have to fumble around behind the dash or console to keep doing upgrades.

Shall I assume that this is only for trucks equipped with nav?
