Default USB ports on 2011

As i was walking around the dealer lot during my last oil change i noticed the 2011's have a USB port in the top glove box. My questions are dose the USB port connect to the RER radio, and what functions dose it provide? My other question is can it be retrofitted to the 2009 and 2010? When i asked thees questions to my dealer and the parts department they had no idea.

My 09 has a USB plug right on the dash. The only use I have found for it is to charge my iPhone.

You can download songs off your ipod to the on board hard drive via the USB if your truck has said hard drive.

the USB port in the radio is for loading music to the hard drive, maybe a firmware change, but it dose make a good USB power point.

I have a 2011 and when I plug my ipod to the usb drive in the glove box, it does nothing. I haven't read the manual yet on how to work it. My understanding is that is the port for the radio to control the ipod. Their is a usb port on the front of the radio. That is to upload pics and songs.

My 2011 plays music from my iPhone via the bluetooth connection and will also play if I have it connected to either of the USB ports. Will play from a thumb drive plugged into either as well.

Bigswede, how well does your audio streaming work? Mine works but a lot of times it plays the music too fast.

yeah, same here. Seems to depend on where I have my phone. I usually place it in the cubby just in front of the shifter. I think I was reading somewhere that it had to do with compatability issues with some of the iPhone releases and mygig's ability to stay synched with iPhone "development"

Mine seems to only play fast or jacked up if I switch songs

Thanks Bigswede, how did you get your USB drive in the glovebox to work? I used an iphone cable that I plug into my computer and plugged it in to the port and nothing happened as I recall.
