Bed Liner On Your Bumpers?
I've heard people talk about spraying your bumpers with Rhino Liner or Line-X for protection. I was just curious if anyone on here has done this with some pictures. I'm curious how it looks, and if you guys are happy with how it turned out vs. how it was before. I have the chrome bumpers on mine, but as I'm sure everyone's aware, they like to rust. I was thinking about getting this done, but not sure if it's practical or if it would look goofy. Any pictures/advice would be appreciated.
We have a guy running around the Albany area with a black 2500 with an aftermarket bumper on the front, he Line-Ex'd the bumper as well as the rockers and a small strip around the entire truck... at first glance it looks like some sort of low-profile fender flares. I think it looks pretty good, but obviously no pics!
I saw an old CJ5 last week and it was completely covered with the bed spray. One of my nephews did his bed and the rockers as well. Took a little getting used too. My next door neighbor had the front of his camping trailer, up to the front window sprayed and that REALLY helped with rock dings.
i sprayed line-x in my fender wells and on the back part of my bumpers where its chrome there and it turned out great. theyre so easy to clean and look amazing when i do. ill get a pic up for you at some point if it helps. i know its not the whole bumper but i did part of the chrome.
Yeah I've seen a guy with a chevy 2500 with aftermarket bumpers that are line-x'd and he also prayed his hood. Looks ok except the hood. Just curious how these rams would look. I think if I'm gonna do it, I'll have to get some different bumpers. Everything has to be so complicated...lol

i had my steel bumpers line-X'ed alot of prep work before i had it done my buddy wanted his chrome bumpers done and when he called line-X they said that the bond on chrome may not work make sure to check first. once i come up with some money im going with a fender flare which i'll get sprayed too to complete the look. i wish i knew how to post pictures but i got no clue sorry. I love the look black and red no grey or chrome just two colors thats it.
I did it to a Dakota I used to have. It started out as two tone green and sand, and I coated the bumpers, fender flares, and lower body in Herculiner bedliner material. I liked the look, especially because I painted the grille black (it had been chrome), and replaced the silver painted alloy wheels with black steelies.
It took about a day to do, but I took my time on prep and sanding. I laid down two coats of herculiner on the fender flares, rockers, and the plastic portions of the bumpers, and painted the chrome portions of the bumpers and the grille. About a month after I did the herculiner, I sprayed several coats of black semi-gloss paint over it, and topped it off with a few layers of clear coat.
For prepping the chrome, I sanded it pretty aggressively to get as much of the plating off as I could. Then I smoothed it out with a finer-grit sandpaper, and sprayed on a couple coats of adhesion promoter before the paint. The paint was all just black semi-gloss rattle can paint available anywhere.
Total cost for that was about $125, including the herculiner, all the spray paint, tape to mask things off, and the rollers. The wheels and tires were obviously more. I also did a 3 inch body lift, which helped the looks as well.
It never gave me any issues when I owned it, and I had the truck for about 50K miles after I did the work. Cleaning was simple...a soft bristle brush and a bucket of regular car wash stuff. Don't dry it...you'll end up with little bits of towel or chamois stuck to it.
Here's what it looked like when new:

Here's what it looked like after it was all done. And yes, it's the same truck.
