Gotcha! I'll have to research it some, I've always ran Amsoil in my rigs so I'm glad I read this....

Thanks!

Not with AMSOIL and MDS if you use 5w20 as recommended. I use Amsoil XL 5W20 and change every 6k. If not Amsoil I'd use Penzoil Plaiumn or Ultimate. Amsoil also has a 'new' line called OE.A little less money and will go the distance per OLM. I like being able to order and UPS delivery.

I also let the dealer change my oil, so I guess they are using Mopar? But this thread has me asking two questions.

1) The manual states the oil should be changed every 3000 miles. How does using extended service oils and synthetics affect warranty?

2) Has anyone been offered the new oil change program? The service manager told me over the phone, they would do 4 oil and filter changes and tire rotation for $64.00.
He also said it was a nation wide program and I could redeem my oil changes and tire rotations at any dealership in the US.
Anyone familiar with this program?

Oh. Since tire rotations are not required at 3000 mile intervals, do they rotate them anyway, along with the oil changes. Thanks

Can you point out the page in the 09 manual where this is stated?

True, but if your engine fails and you get your oil analized, AMS oil will cover the cost of repairs.

like I said I go 6 month or 12,000 km's before I change.

I ran my last one for 10,000 km's and did not notice any difference on my MDS. my truck still started easier than the gf's car in -30 with my oil being in the truck for 4 months and about 7,000 km's.

I use Mobile 1 5W20 full synthetic and a dealer filter. Once off warranty I will continue with Mobile 1 5W20 full synthetic and change to a Wix filter.

The problem is when used for extended intervals, the oil gets thicker and thicker with repeated heatings and coolings. It's the reason it lasts so long as other oils get thinner over time.
As I stated, this is a great property for longevity, but bad for a modern engine with internals as critical to oil viscosity as an MDS engine.

At 6k changes, you'd be fine (according to all I've read) but much past 8k and you should send in the oil to be tested. At 10k it's a good bit thicker than the 5w20 that went in there...

I use Pennzoil Ultra,or Valvoline Synpower, whichever I decide to get.Filters are K&N Performance Gold (HP-2010),or Mopar (MO-899)....Thinking about trying the Wix filters from Napa.My truck stays parked alot,so I change my oil every 3 months, regardless of mileage.Mileage hardly ever reaches 2,000 miles before it is changed...

You might as well try a Wix. No sense in paying $13.00 for that little nut on the end of a filter. Besides, if you lock a filter up, you're doing it wrong. That's really the only difference between K&N and Wix.

For what it's worth, be wary of those Mopar filters too. One batch might be a rebadged Wix and the next might be a rebadged Fram. Mopar commissions who ever is making the cheapest product at the time which should scare you considering that Fram filters are notorious for falling apart and blowing filtration media through the motor... No bueno.
