Tire Falls Off. Near Collision. Advice?
I am glad nobody got hurt and I think since there was an error and things could have went bad in a real hurry the dealership should go completely out of their way to be sure you are happy with your truck. Somebody mentioned check it out suspension wise, that is good advice since my son hit a curb with our AVenger and well it went thru insurance and the axle, and all kinds of damage including tire and rim, took it home vibrated the whole way home they did not even change the rotor, a 30 dollar OEM part. I was not impressed, now I am at a dealership in town and well I used to deal with them and their service got really crappy years ago, now it if fantastic, they go out of their way to make sure things are good.
I guess I didn't really word it clearly. I suppose I should have said: do dealerships usually offer something above the repair as an apology and if so what. I guess I just wanted to now if there was a standard thing chrysler did to say sorry.
Dealer called me this morning. They said they have gone over everything thoroughly. Steering, suspension, rims, rotors, body etc etc. I got lucky. They are replacing both rear rotors so they wear evenly, lugnuts and the rim. They said they didn't have to replace the studs. They weren't bent or stripped. Odd, I wonder if they even put all the lugs on or just one handtight so the rim would stay in place. Anyway...I am going in to talk with the dealer principle today as I guess he is quite angry. I'll see what they say.
Should I ask for it to be documented on the invoice what happened so I have something in writing in case problems arise in the near future that can be attributed to this or should I just go with good faith that they keep this in mind for future problems?

I'd be a little wary that they did not replace the studs. It would be difficult to have a wheel come off under load and not tweak the studs or damage the threads.
I'd definitly make sure that what happened is documented on the service record.

So here's the final word:
Both rear rotors replaced. 5 new lugnuts. New Rim. 4 wheel alignment and 2 free OLF's
Fully documented on service record including my account of what happened in its entirety not just the actual damaged area (striking the curb with the front passenger tire etc etc)

Me either. I thought they woukd need to be replaced for sure but without proof I have no way to force the dealer to do anything. At the time I wasn't thinking straight to get a good look at them. I will probably be taking it to an independant mechanic I trust and have them take a look if for nothing more than my own peace of mind.
They are going to treat you like gold and fix your truck. They might give you free life time oil changes. They will tell you what ever it takes to get you to go away quietly. I say file a lawsuit. They almost killed you. You could have killed someone else. Thank god you are ok. Sounds like the tire man was in a hurry to go home. I would have gone in there and ripped them a new one.
actually count yourself lucky ( in regards of getting everything taken care of under warranty).................they could have denied it was their fault the tire came off and demanded you go through your own insurance...or worse yet chrysler could have denied warranty because they could say its the dealers issue of poor service and not covered under the warranty. if you dont believe me go visit the corvette forum where chevy denied warranty to a blown motor where the dealer started the engine with no oil during an oil change, threw a rod right through the block. The owner of the corvette had to deal with the dealerships insurance company for his new engine, not chevy. it ended up working out in the end but for a little bit he was in a sticky situation.
Medic ... if you decide to get an attorney (I would just to know what your options are) you should stop posting on the message boards. Dodge and your dealership could try and construe any comments made here as being derogatory and hurt your case should you try and build one. Although I'm not an atty. I wouldn't do anything to hurt my case.
