I just wanted to make sure it was clear. As the thread progressed it seemed as if more and more people were getting the impression that was my intention....

Wow, unfortunate story. Glad that you are ok, it could have most definitely been worse.

I would suspect that if they have been nothing but good to you (the dealer) then they will make right by you in this situation certainly.

Were all of your wheel lug studs broken off? I almost can't imagine a scenario where the lug nuts were all installed but not tightened where the wheel falls off without being preceded by a tremendous amount of clunking and banging that ultimately leads to broken studs. Seems unlikely to me that 5 lug nuts would all loosen up all the way and fall off in a few miles leaving the studs intact.

I've had a vehicle with two slightly loose lug nuts one time (someone tried to steal my wheel but failed due to locking lug nuts) and it was clunking a lot just from that.

I had something very similar to this happen to my Wife's BMW from a BMW dealership. Just the locking nut was tightened; the other 4 bolts were loose when we got it back.
Just brought it to the attention of the dealership, and had it rectified w/o engaging the issue publically. This happens more often than many people realize.
It would naturally lead some people to believe you were probing to see how much you could 'milk' the dealership for this, notwithstanding what your true intentions of this post was.
I also firmly believe some people would try to take advantage of a situation like this to see what they could get out of it. Kudos to you if you aren't.

No money when nothing happened, what can you sue for ****ty undies? Too much suing going on , now if you got hurt or someone else then different story. Check on your truck as often as you can to be sure they are fixing it right.

Like I said. It felt like the back end slid a bit going around the first corner. It was raining pretty good so I thought maybe just an oily patch or something. No other warning till it happened. At first I thought I hit a bit pothole that I didn't see so maybe that was my warning clunk. I don't know

My original intention of starting the thread was to ask what else I should be concerned about so that if the dealer came back and said, new rotor, new rim and that's all that if I had problems with anything else in the near future I could know that this incident may have been the cause. Like I said, I am mechanically inclined, but far from being a mechanic. The wondering if a dealer usually goes beyond just fixing the truck in a situation like this was really just an afterthought. I have no intention of anything beyond my truck being the same as it was when I originally brought it there for service. Like I said to the service manager....everybody has a horrible day, I am sure that guy will never make this mistake again

make sure they look at the lower control arm areas not control arm but the outter of the rear axle. and mounting bolts and such too.

Sorry to hear this event, glad your alright and no one else was hurt, i think people were hitting you on the lawyer side since you were looking for additional compensation other than a fix and sorry, make sure the truck gets fixed and thoroughly inspected, get an apology, and cause for incident, other than that your good to go. Not trying to change the subject or start a troll session but make sure you inspect the vehicle anytime you have work done prior to driving off the lot, especially tires removed/installed, not placing any blame just a good SOP to follow and another way to prevent them from possibly negating their responsibility if they were one of the bad dealers we so often hear about.

I had something similar to this happen in the early 80's to my RoadRunner. I had an inspection done at Montgomery Ward and they had forgotten to tighten the lug nuts on one of the rear wheels. I was driving later that evening, luckily only going about 35 (I had been known to approach 160), and I heard a weird noise and felt unusual vibration. Three of the studs had broken off and the two left were ready to come off. They paid the tow, and for getting it fixed. I think they did something else, but it was a long time ago.
