I find the quality of these trucks is far superior over 1990s and beyond. A few whining differentials is nothing compared to the differential issues I dealt with in the 1990s.

And shazam another one. What kind of rear end do you have on your truck Coon? 3.55?

I wonder how many people that can't use a computer or know about forums that had this happened to them.

After reading eight pages of posts & opinions, I don't recall anyone complaining about the 3:21 highway luggers. Are they immune from the epidemic? I'd be willing to bet there's more of them on the road in the 4th gen trucks than the 3:55 or 3:92 versions.

I'll take that bet. When I was looking for my truck I hardly ever found a 1500 with 3.21 on a sales lot or in an on-line inventory search. The vast majority were 3.55, with 3.92 in 2nd place. That ratio also seems to hold for the way people discuss them here on the forum.

I have the 3:55. I was gassing up for a weekend trip to the woods when i noticed oil dripping under my truck. It was coming out from where the driveshaft goes into the rear end. I was only a couple of miles away from the dealer to i tried to make it there. Didn't happen. the wine took on an nasty sound and then BACKKK. That was all she wrote.

I am going to try to get them to replace it with the anti spin rear diff.

Did yours whine in every gear?

Mine only whines in first gear, and I am going to take it into the dealer this week. I have a 2500 with 3.73 gears. I think mine might be tranny realted since it is only in first gear I hear the noise. It could just be the way it should sound in first.

The 1500 and 2500 have different rear axles and made by different suppliers. Just in case any one reading this was not aware.

Cool I did not know that. Mine goes in on Thursday, so we will see if there really is an issue, or if it is just normal.

Thanks

Crush Sleeve and Bearing Issues. Was Timken so expensive they just had to buy parts from China?
