Default I need more power

Kicking myself for not buying the Hemi but considering the deal I got on my truck, oh well. Ill live. However I do need more towing power and I'm wondering if new gears will give me a boost.

Can anyone educate me here? can I swap the gears out to get more power when towing and if so what do I need? How will new gears affect my gas mileage both when towing and when I'm not towing?

That's a good question. I don't really know. My truck is a 09 2wd 4.7L Crew cab SLE. I think its the 9.25 but I'm not certain.

9.25 is the size of the rear axle, which is correct for a 1500. The gears are probably a 3.55 if your really short on power. You can read in the 3rd gen section that a lot of guys swapped to 4.56 gears. Will definitely help with pulling. I have 3.92s and a hemi which works great for me.

Many on this forum have expressed satisfaction with the 4.7 towing capability. FYI - I had 4.10 ratio gears installed on my 4.7 Dakota and it was a noticeable improvement.

However, 4.10's are not going to get you and a trailer around a convoy of 18 wheelers on a 2 lane blacktop in under 15 seconds. Of course neither will the hemi.

4.56 if you have 20" wheels and 33" tires. 4.10's if you have 17" wheels and 31" tall tires.
Also, a programmer like the Diablosport Predator will wake it up too. Up to 30rwhp on the Hemi. The 08-up 4.7 isn't a slouch. 310hp and 330lb/ft I believe.
