1st gear whine
My 2500 2009 with a hemi automatic 3.73 gears whines in 1st gear. I have owned it since 16K miles and it has always done it it now has 20K miles. As soon as it hits second gear it is gone. You can hear it pretty good with the windows down.
Is this just normal?
I would think it would be the transmission not the rearend since it only does it in first gear. Does it just do this in first since it is a low gear?

Evan,
If you want to PM me your VIN I can check for any service bulletins on this issue.

Evan,
I sent you a PM based on your VIN. I included the one TSB that applied to your vehicle but I am not sure that it would solve your issue. If you take it to the dealer I would suggest having them document your concern in case of a future problem. Being that the vehicle has a 6/80 Certified Powertrain warranty, if it does fail in the future due to this issue you should be covered if it is indeed a powertrain issue.

Hi,
my ram 1500 QC 4x4 2006 5.7 3.55 gears has same "issue"... I noticed it few weeks ago but don't know if whine was there already before... I do have 109k miles on truck so this might be reason...
Do anybody else notice this in first gear? I noticed it when I locked tranny to first gear and go to arround 2000rpm, but this was heard with windows down, so is not too loud.
I hope this is just normal or at least nothing searious

Just got my truck back from the dealer and they did nothing. They told me yes we can hear the noise, and they called it "Gear whine". They told me they don't have any 2500 hemi's on the lot to compare the noise to see if it is normal. So they documented it just in case I have an issue with it. I think I will take it to another dealer, and see what they say.
Anyone have a 2009 2500 with this noise?
