Exclamation Anyone have problems with HIDs in fog lights?

I just installed a set of HIDs in my fog lights and only one light comes on. The other one comes on for about 1 second and then goes off, then comes back on about 5 seconds later and then goes off for good. I have switched the bulbs and ballasts around the both work fine on the right side, but won’t work on the left side. I put the factory bulb back in and it works.
I just installed a set of the same lights on my buddies ford and it works just fine. I am going to try and put some bulb grease on tomorrow, but I am stumped on this. Do the fog lights have to have a relay or something light the lows and highs? Has anyone put hids in a 2012 yet?

Thanks!

The fogs are on its own circuit and are controlled by the ECU. Of course you have to switch them on by pushing the switch. But once you turn your high beams on the ECU bypasses them and turns them off. But if you got 1 light on then my guess is its in the plug. My first thought was that your ballast was bad, but if you said you switch left to right, my guess is its now on the trucks portion. IT COULD be something on the 2012s tho, but I would not think they would be any different from any earlier models.

Just out of curiosity (if you have a way) measure the voltages on the side that doesn't work when you have the side that does on. There should be no change in voltages, it should read 14.2 or something around there. If it doesn't theres got to be something in the ECU thats doing it.

You want useful info?
Put the halogen back in. It's made for halogen not HIDS.

I must agree on the aftermarket HID's. I am blinded daily by these things. Sometimes the fogs aren't so bad, but unless you buy a real kit for the headlights that are projector type and not just shoved into the stock housing and are adjustable, they are ok, but most seem to buy the cheap stuff (which should be illegal) and they light up squirrels in the tops of trees and and blind oncoming drivers.

They should work on the fogs with no relay unlike the low beams. My only solution I can think of now is to put a relay taking power from the right side.

Oh ya maybe check the wiring that all your pos wiring is with pos and neg to neg

Your right they are made for halogens but you are still wrong in some aspects....when people use them in there fogs (YES I DO!) and use them w/o common sense yes they are horrible...But these work GREAT for when I am driving down back roads w/ minimal light and minimal traffic. You can bash them all you want, but you can't say it's a horrible idea. It's people that use them 24/7..I have HID headlights and use projectors to cut off so I don't blind people, I have my truck leveled 2" in the front and adjusted them down 2 turns and I have yet to see one oncoming car flash me.

When I first got my HID's I used my fogs for a few days and realized how bad they were and no one really flashed me except the mini POS cars on the road.

To the original OP...you shouldn't need a relay on the fogs. When I first installed mine I had an issue w/ the left side not lighting up but that was my fault for not making sure I plugged in the connectors ALL the way...mine is a PNP kit from Retro Solutions and haven't had any problems as of yet after the install.

I'd recheck all the connections like Interpunx stated...

I live out in a rural area, and every morning I run into this same moron that uses HID's in his figs and headlights (not adjusted properly), and of recent added them to his high beams as well. He'll drive right down the county HWY without a care in the world, and watchl driver after driver get blinded by this moron. Fortunately it's a smaller compact, but I'm more determined now to add aviation lights behind my grille just to show him what he's doing to everyone else!
