Default A-ha!

That's exactly the way my 2003 1500 Quad Cab Laramie is optioned.
I didn't realize it didn't have as packaged option the underhood light, and yes, my ride does not have the underhood shield. Must have been an option for the shield and light? Go figure, I paid close to $40k in 2003... love my baby still but seems to be an oversite on a vehicle with "all the bells and whistles"! Today I am installing twin factory lights, bought two wiring harnesses also, using black wire loom and clips to look like factory... here's the weird thing the factory connector is on the driver's side under the hood and the hood has mounting slots and holes for attachment both on the driver's and passenger's side!

Default Jeeps had that too!

My sister had a Jeep Cherokee (1999), it has that hood light too.
The housing was sort of a rounded shape, that was in order for the wire from the light to retract into it, and it had about a 5 ft. length of wire, as usual when something works too well and makes sense they stop producing it! Go figure!

I have the underhood light - due to the Laramie package BUT it's a POS.

I did the same thing DirtyDog did. Only difference is I used a wireless relay w/key fob to turn them on/off, but aside from that it's about identical to Dirty's deal.

Paid $31 for a 5 meter (about 15 feet) of rolled 5050SMD lights, waterproof and already with 3M tape backing off of ebay (Hong Kong). Easy project - only thing you need is some wire and a cheap soldering tool with a little solder.

Raining like hell here but I'll try to snap a pic during the week. Like 'Dirty, I have a whole lot of extra lights on that roll and can make some up if anyone is interested. The wireless relay adds about $12 to the deal but you can wire direct. Would have used the stock wire harness w/mercury switch but I was told the switch couldn't handle the LEDs without burning out. Dunno if this is true or not. Besides, I like that I can turn them on/off from in front of the truck...

Default Dual Underhood Factory Lights Installed

Okay, here's the way the factory should have done it.
I installed dual factory lights, wireloomed with clips to the hood and connected to the factory wiring harness. I'm a happy man!
