Default Under Hood light (work light)?

My old '97 SLT had an under-hood convenience light. My 2010 SLT doesn't, but I see a cutout in the insulation and a mounting hole.

WTF?

Okay, I'll bite - since when doesn't the SLT trim line include this feature?

Dare I ask what it'd cost to add it?

Thanks!

.

My SLT had the under hood light, it's the Big Horn model.

You'd think this would be standard on the ST packages... any way for them to make an extra penny!!!

Do you have the wiring for the light? If so I don't think it'd be expensive then....

Like you I can't believe it's not there on this 2010 SLT, but it's not. I'm fairly sure the harness is universal at least among the 4.7's so it's probably there. For example I know all the necessary connections are there on an ST to install the factory remote start kit, so it's pretty much got to be there. Question is where?

My SLT didn't have one when I bought it. I ended up trading my stock hood for a sport one though with Vodapas on here. He let me have the underhood light with the sport hood. I'm guessing you have to go Bighorn on up to get one.

This is where the connector from the underhood light plugs in. Your truck should have it as well. It's located near the passenger side fender not far from the hydraulic strut that holds up the hood. As far as parts they are all separate from what I've found. You'll have to order the lamp piece and the harness to connect it separately.

Thanks Shibby. I'll take a look tomorrow. Wonder how bad they'll try to gouge me for the parts? Any bets it'll be at least $50?

Oh at least that for sure. You might try like a parts wholesaler online and just order the parts. You could get your dealer to make you up a parts list and then order them online likely for much cheaper than what the stealership will want. Just a thought.

Or maybe visit a salvage yard...

My SLT did not come with one either. Looks like you can buy the generic Mopar kit for around $30

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRYSLER-DOD...item3a6bb2ec12

Mopar #56021441 seems to be just the light
05102411AA is the generic harness

You can probabally find the 09 ram specific harness if you look a bit

Thanks!!!! I may look into the eBay option. I did check the eBay posting and from the looks of the "kit" there doesn't appear to be enough wire, although not a problem. Also the black flex-tube isn't included (also not a problem, merely an observation). The generic kit would be fine. Unlike some, I'm not a 'purist' where everything has to be factory-original. I'm not restoring a classic, merely wanting a dang convenience light. (Have you ever tried to replace a serpentine belt in the dark)?

Yes I actually have tried that, and succeeded on my brothers (now gone) Ford Ranger. Not fun to say the least.
