I removed the filter but couldn't really see anything wrong with it, so I reinstalled it. The leak persisted, so I removed it again and replaced it with another filter and that ended the leak. After close inspection comparing the private labeled oil filter with the correct Nissan type, I found the gasket diameter did not match.

I took this information back to the quick lube place and the manager, who was no kid by the way, was quite indignate and, although agreeing that his filter wasn't the right match to a Nissan filter, shrugged and said (direct quote), "That's the filter the company says to use and that's the one we're going to use."

I said, "Even though its going to leak?"

He looked me straight in the eye and said, "Yep. Even though it's going to leak."

I sure hope they install a brand new oil pump if they rebuild his engine..!!!!

Have a friend of mine that had the oil pump let go on his hemi truck, warranty didnt cover it, had to buy his own engine.
Thats what he gets for letting BIFFY LUBE refill his truck with their crappy qrackerstate bulk oil.
Thats where he took his truck for every oil change since new... said it saved him a ton of money on oil changes...lol
When they took his hemi apart to inspect it, the sludge was so thick... then they decided not to even mess with it.
(30,000 an had severe damage to everything inside the engine, everything looked as though it had 200,000 miles on it)
So he bought a brand new crate engine... and noooooo, he dosent go to BIFFY BOOBOO anymore...lol
I have good buddy who used to have a mid '90s Wrangler, 4.0 I6 who was a Quaker State oil nut, I mean like wore QS t-shirts, had QS hats and such. I dunno what the fascination with QS was with him but we had to tear that engine down with only 62k miles on it and I saw more wear and sludge than I've ever seen with in an engine with 3x that amount of miles on it. I am NOT a fan of Quaker State by any means...

Its still at the dealer being worked on. Called Thursday and they told me the new cam is in and the heads are about to go back on. The are certaining taking their time about it. They estimate they will have to truck back to me Monday afternoon.

I told the service manager to please inspect the truck carefully for any damage done while they have been wrenching on it for a month e.g. dents scratches chips etc. as it was flawless when I dropped it off in that regard. He said no problem and in fact they will have it cleaned and detailed before returning to me.

He said the cam had the same pitting as the lifter, he said he thought the whole thing might have been due to a soft cam. I asked if they replaced that one rocker, he said they replaced the entire rocker assembly e.g. shaft, rockers, etc. Don't know if its just the one head or both.

Chrysler Update: They declined to extend my warrant or give me an extended service contract. Offered some 4 year roadside assist package in case I break down. Fine, I guess I'll report them to the BBB and every other place I can think of. I told the lady at Chrysler (nicely) I will be doing this. That my position is I can only assume they applied a cheap bandaid fix and refuse to extend the warranty because they are hoping that the warranty will run out before the engine goes. She said well if the engine goes after the warranty they would look at my file and consider whether to do something for me, yeah...riiiiiiight.

This truck will be traded off long before then, probably within 6 months. You know I shopping the 2012 Ram's the last week or so, I still love these trucks but I was really disapointed to see they have not replaced the CRAP headlights with HID yet wtf.

I kinda figured thats exactly what was going to happen with chrysler and fixing your truck the way they have. I would do exactly that, dump it before it gives you problems. Only thing i would do different, the truck would be gone by the next day if it were me. As for the "soft cam" story from your dealer, i call that BULLSH!T...! If these cams were THAT soft, you would have seen a ton of them coming apart, but i have not heard of another person having this very issue. Something let go within that engine somewhere and destroyed it. I hope they are replaceing the oil pump. Only reason i say this, what if the oil pump was the actual cause of this whole mess. Yeah, 4th gen dodge headlights SUCK period. Both styles suck. Dosent matter if they are the dual or the quad lights. They are the absolute worst headlights. Anyhow, i wish you all the luck my friend, but just some whole hearted advice, dump the truck asap. You`re probably like me with your truck, i would never feel good about it after what has happened.

unless you are done with rams, might first thought would be to talk to the owner and see what kind of "sweet" deal he might be willing to give. in other words, he doesn't have to loose money on the deal, but shouldn't be out to make money on this deal either.

Well I spent this morning drooling over the Ford Raptor 6.2 liter Boss. This was the truck I wanted to buy when I purchased the Dodge in 2010 but the 6.2 liter wasn't out yet and Ford's 5 liter is a gutless pile.

I may trade the Dodge in on a Raptor but was disapointed to find Ford owners hate their headlamps just as much as Dodge owners do. And no fog lights on the Raptor . I have to run my fog lights on the Dodge just to see at night.

The 2013 Raptor its getting new headlamps, no information on whether they are HID's but I'd probably wait 6 months for the 2013's just for the new headlamps if they are an improvement.

From what I have read so far the engine is a tank, forged steel rods, cast iron block, SOHC.

Oh oh here we go, that's what happens where you lose your vehicle, start looking around on the other side of the fence too much hehe. That raptor is a nice unit i must admit, but pricey, might as well get a power wagon for that price lol. I know if I had that truck and a pile of extra cash i would be buying this mounting kit from Rigid Industries https://www.rigidindustries.com/category-s/107.htm That'll take care of your sh*tty lights alright.

But i know how you feel, once you start having problems with one product, you start losing faith in it, scares you away. I know I had the same experience with Arctic Cat, never again.

I know a Ford service tech. The F-series have their problems, too. The 5.7 Hemi motor has proven itself. The Ford motors are new so only time will tell.
