Default 2011 rear end whine

I have a ram sport with 3.92 rear. do any of you get a whine from the rear especially if you have the rear glass open. around 50-70mph you can here it the best. i dont want to take it to the dealer if its just a normal sound coming from that rear end. its not a bad whine but i do hear a whine. cant hear it if you dont have the rear glass open.

Not at all uncommon, i`ve road tested & heard more rearends whine than not with these 4th gen dodge trucks. It will eventually get louder just before it blows. These differentials are just plain junk, and very poor quality built. They`re built by "ZF manufacturing" for chrysler. Good luck finding a stealership that can rebuild it properly. Mine is so loud that the radio wont even drowned out the sound. Had 2 different dealerships tell me that when it blows out, then come in to have it fixed. Nice huhhhh...!!!!! Chrysler KNOWS this is an issue, but they wont step up and fix the problem. I guess they`re waiting till some people get killed on the highway before they`ll be forced by the goverment to fix these trucks. If you do a search on all the dodge & chrysler forums, you will find LOTS of info about bad differentials. Google it, you`ll see what i meen. Yours being a 2011, may have the recall on it. Go to your closest stealership and have them run your VIN number to find out.

It may be low on differential fluid.

And it may be nothing. Opening the back slider amplifies the differential noise tremendously.

You wanna here whine noise? Drive a 2500 gas single cab with a AAM or even back when Dana and open the back glass. Slow speeds like in parking lot and such. They do it up to 30/40 mph just get fainter the faster you go. Was much harder to hear if a diesel.

Yea im sure you guys are right, plus i really dont want to give service dept my truck. everytime i give them my truck i feel as if they break something else. I had the recall done on the truck 10,000 miles ago for the rear end. I have 21,000 on it know. I always check the tran temp when im on my way to and from work. its always around 128-131 which is the norm. If it was low on fluid I feel the temp would be a little high. next time I go in for an oil change I have them check the fluid level. other than the little whine and the ****ty tires that came with the truck, its pretty much a blast to own. much better then my 08 silverado.

Trans temp has nothing to do with differential temp. Lot of distance between the two.

You might be just hearing tire noise, BUT, i would have that diff fluid level checked YESTERDAY...! Get to a dealer ASAP, do not wait...! Get under the truck WITH the stealership monkey(mechanic) and make him show you where the level of the fluid is at and that it is at the proper level. That way YOU will know for sure that it is satisfactory. Do NOT trust them to tell you its ok, take a look for yourself.

2500 i could somewhat understand having a little noise, but these 1500 trucks..? Absolutly not..!
