2009 Hemi rough idle, one more time!
I've seem older posts from members mentioning a rough idle on their Hemi's but I have yet to see anyone come up with a definitive answer to the multiple questions on this issue.
I have an `09 Ram 1500 that just clicked over 50k last month. Earlier this summer I was at the drive-in movie with my kids. After the movie had finished I started the truck and I had all kinds of lights, bells and whistles going off on the dash. The ETC light was on and alternating between ETC and Serv WD, The CEL was also on and if I remember correctly, possibly the traction control light was on also.
I was a little concerned being I was 25 miles from home and it was 1:30am, but we left the movies and except for the MSD not activating because of the CEL, the truck seemed to run fine.
The next day I went out an the lights were all still on. I drove the truck as I normally would and after a few stops all the lights went out except the CEL. Later that day the CEL went out.
What I have noticed since then is at a stop light the truck idles at around 500 rpm and is rougher than I remember, and it bothers me. Also, If I am creeping in traffic headed to a red light or stop sign the truck sort of shudders or "hops". Its hard to explain, but I'm not happy about the truck right now. this truck has been maintained and serviced by the dealer. New plugs @ 40K new air filter every 15K.
I found a TSB for some unrelated issues that pertain to a PCM flash for vehicle performance. 18-011-12. I hope this helps otherwise this Ram will be headed down the road.
If anyone has any concrete answers for a rough idle on an 09 Hemi, I'd be happy to hear them!!

Before you travel to your local stealership and waste your time, first unhook the battery terminals for 10 minutes. (this is a good time to clean your battery & terminals anyway) Then hook the battery back up... take it for a long test drive, give it a few miles to let it re-learn the computor. If you still have the same issue, you`ll likely have to stop into your stearlership and have them re-flash the pooter. You MIGHT even have a bad pooter...!
Wouldnt hurt to add some highly concentrated fuel injection cleaner to a full tank of gas.
I`ve found over many years that GUMOUT carb/fuel injection cleaner works the best.
Run the tank down almost to empty so that you get the full dose of cleaner thru it.
Hope this helps you... if it does not, let us know whats going on and if you find out anything.

Maybe you got some bad gas? do as LU suggested with the Gumout (or whatever product that does the same thing, some folks swear by seafoam, I usually use the Techron) & computer disconnect but if it still doesn't fix it, try cleaning the Throttle Body. The TB is the key for idling since the throttle is closed and the idle air squeezes by the TB and the butterfly, if it's dirty, it can cause rough idle.
I forgot to mention that prior to posting this I did a bunch of checking this site and Google. I already reset the computer by removing the neg cable, and I also pulled the PCM fuse and did the key turn thing and waited for the three dings (only two dings came). I have been thru multiple tanks of gas since then so I don't suspect it was a bad gas issue. I think it PCM also, but unless the codes are stored, the stealership isn't going to do much. Luckily I do have a friend who is the service advisor there so they are doing the TSB flash without any hassle. Hope it helps but I don't suspect it will
This worked for me around 35k. There was some build up around where the butterfly edges were. I'm at 76k now and it is a bit rough again. Need to get another can of TB cleaner, remove and clean it again.
I can clean the TB, but I must say, when I had the air tube off last week to try the " TB grounding" I was quite surprised at how clean the throttle body was. I didn't see any build up on the plate at all. It can't hurt! And NO, the TB grounding didn't do anything for the idle or shift quality like some other threads talk about!

Pull the air box lid, make sure the air filter is clean. Double check your fuse box... make sure ALL the fuse`s are pushed in very good.
Another thought....
Has the truck ever had ANY aftermarket items added to the electrical system within the truck in the past...????
You might have an issue within the printed circut board behind the dash/speedometer. Might even have a bad TIPM.

Spray carb cleaner in the air idle control valve, have seen many over the years that were sticking, caused erratic idle issues.

Gonna be pretty difficult to do, the drive by wire gen 4 Rams do not have Idle Air Control Valves.
10-4 on that! There isn't much cleaning to do on the throttle body. The plate and the barrel are about all there is to this thing, and it's already pretty clean!
