2013 1500 reg cab V6 8speed ?
Mine is regular cab 8 foot box, so a quad cab with lots of options is going to be heavier, would that make a difference in performance, I don't know.
Yes, TEST DRIVE before you buy, especially if your not used to driving a V6 in a p/u truck, not just around the block either, go up a few grades, and on a boulevard where you can do some passing manoeuvres.
I’m O.K with this V6, 8 speed set up, as long as there are no mechanical issues, and the gas mileage is close to what Ram touts, I will be happy.

Yes I have to agree with you, ....cant compare apples to oranges, The pentastar V6 is what it is, a V6, if a person is looking for the better gas mileage, and also have the big torque of a V8, then they will be disappointed. There has to be compromises. So far I am liking the performance of this Pentastar V6, keep in mind that I only have 100 miles on it, still breaking it in, so I haven't gotten on it much yet, it does have spunk though, quite a bit actually, 0-60 in 7 seconds, that's reasonable.

I had a 1982 D150 reg cab long bed with the 318 and the 4 speed OD transmission that was more like a 3 speed with a 4th OD gear. I used it regularly to haul a 300 gallon water tank that weighed just over 2600 pounds full and had very few issues with it other than it being difficult to start out on a hill. I also towed dollied a VW Rabbit from Atlanta Ga to Central WV and got better than 18 MPG with it on the trip home. My point is this, according to Dodge it came with 140 HP and 4 very high gears since it had a 3.23 rear differential and it was pretty adequate as a pick up. The new truck with a 300 HP V6 and the 8 speed automatic which should have a MUCH lower 1st gear and a lower rear gear might be an interesting combination. I probably wouldn't recommend it in a dressed CC 4x4 due to the empty weight handicap but each individual will have an opinion on wether or not it is a "good truck". I look forward to hearing real world numbers on mileage and work capabilities of it. I currently use my truck for transportation and a grocery getter since I don't fit in most cars but I might be looking close at this option in a year or two to save fuel and miles on my primary CC 4X4 .
**** is not awkward for me at all, at first I was grabbing the air to shift with the handle [instinct], but I am used to the **** now, It functions just like the handle, PRND, its electonic, five point turn easy, it has indents, like changing channels on an old TV ecxcept more subtle. cruise control is on the steering wheel.

Yesyour right, it all comes down to what the persons wants/needs in a truck are,it’s a “good truck” for me is all I meant. So far that is. Like you, I use thetruck mostly for errands in the city and I do some small renovation work, Ineed the 8 foot box for drywall/lumber, occasionally but not V8 torque 100% ofthe time. I live in Canada and gas is expensive here too, $1.24 per liter, 3.76liters per gallon, $4.66 a gallon.
TheECU is deciding the shift patterns, there are I think about forty in all, itseems a bit slow off the line, [ could be because I am listening to the shiftstoo much and trying to compare it to a regular transmission I should just turnthe radio on] then once it gets to the third shift it will go from 30 kph to 6080 kph fairly quickly.
Thereis also shift up and shift down arrow toggle on the steering wheel, so they maybe manipulated somehow, but I have not played with it yet.

I too am curious to see what the actual real numbers are compared to what the hemi does. I know what they said about the ecoboost is not right. I know guys personally who got just about the same as I did with my hemi. Ya they would kill me around town, but here its lots of highways so...
I am also curious to see how that new tranny holds up. The technology is there for it, fully electronic could be the next thing. BUT it is an 8 speed. Do you find its always looking for a gear to set in?
Man I still can't believe to price of fuel anywhere but Alberta. We were under a dollar for a short couple weeks. but now we are up to 104. MAN! I don't even pay 120 for diesel!

I lived in Alberta last couple of terms of Ralph Klines office, I remember getting $500 distribution check just before elections, a couple of times, that guy was a real charachter.
I think the truck [my truck] is too new to tell very much, if there are issues it will take a while for me to notice, Im not a mechanical guy, and I am not getting feedback from other v6 8 speed owners yet to campare it to. It seem to find the gear it wants to be in though. so far.
everything on it is drive by wire, steering, throttle, tranny...
I'll get the mileage averages off the info center posted soon, but its all down to driving habbits, Ive been getting on it here and there, seeing how it reacts, when passing , up hills, asking for power on those left hand turns off a bulivard etc, so I'm using more gas than I normally would.

rhyster what is the rear gearing?......Ok just realized this is an old thread so how about an update on how you are liking the truck??

The truck is running fine, no mechanical issues. Its very light and nimble, easy to maneuver, I have about eight thousand kilometers on it, mostly city moderate traffic.
I'm getting an average of about 21- 25 MPG, That's according to the "fuel economy display"
At certain times you do get 30mpg, but that quickly disappears when you hit the gas, or stop and goes . it all works on averages. so it will never get a consistent 30 MPG That's just part of the sales pitch.
What are some average MPG on the 4.7 L and the 5.7 liter with eight speed?
Regards
Rhys
