My 2009 has a build date of 09-08 and I received the recall notice.

I haven't had any noise problems with the rear end and it has 43K on it now. I did have the pinion seal replaced a couple of months ago, the only problem I have had with the drive train. Dealer handled it with no hassles.

I haven't checked to see if by replacing the pinion seal that it would satisfy the recall, I should call over and see if they would know.

Just some advice... keep an eye on that new seal, thers usually a reason the seal goes bad, like a pinion bearing failure on the way sometime soon.

I take my 09 in friday 6/27 to the dealership for the recall. They finally got the part(s). Its a dealership service I have used before with good results. Hopefully, things will go ok.

Its a shame Dodge couldn't do the nut repair when they rebuilt the rear end a few months ago. There dime, not mine.

Thanks for the heads up. Old time mechanic here, early seal failures on the rear should definitely be on the watch list.

Just had the recall done. The truck was at the dealers for about 2 hours. All they did was inspect, tightnen to specs and install a new retaining nut. Since I had the rear end rebuilt less than 2K ago, I didn't expect Dodge to much more.

Did they take the cover off? seems to me that in order for them to check the pinion bearing pre-load, they would have to take it apart.

Dr. Bill,

Parts for the M34 recall should be available shortly and the second letters are being mailed out. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Service Manager at your servicing dealer. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you would like to PM with any inquiries I'd be happy to help.

Not sure. All they said is they did the inspection. They did know that the rearend was rebuilt less than 2k ago.

It is a dealer I trust. If they screwed up, its stll on their dime. Mines an 09 with the lifetime powertrain warranty. Also have an extended warrenty for 7 years.

If they pulled the cover off, the work order would reflect the supplies required to reinstall it. New RTV for the cover and new gear lubricant. The reason I'm curious is that I'm ready to change the gear lubricant but am waiting for the recall to see if they do it.

Then they did not pull the cover.
It may be because they rebuilt the rear end less than 2k ago.
