whos pulling a fifth wheel
No, I think the Mecanically ignorant was directed to me, but Im not at all offended.
I work for a public utility that uses Ford F HD trucks and thier all 5.4 or V-10 power trains, as well as GM 6.0 gas engines in 2500 frames..
Suspension wise, the HD F trucks hold up quite well, but when thier outfited with flat decks, utility boxs, ect, the V-10 triton is a gas sucking let down, thier pigs, even drving one for free to earn a living is painful..
Based on this, I can't understand why a Ford V-10 is worthwhile in a motor home..
A lot of techinical people are down on the hemi, not enough low to midrange power, only revs to arround 5500 rpm, but I dam possitive that when equiped with a 410 rear, or 456, gearing and than trasnplanted into a Ford HD frame, the hemi will out performe a ford V-10.
and Im waiting for some to post engine stats to prove thier smarter tan me, thats fair, But I drive F HD trucks every day and I so love my hemi 2500 at the end of a Ford day!!!

I agree.. I use a Ram 2500 Hemi for a lawn maintenance trailer from time to time when I work there.. Thats cause the ford v10 was such junk I couldnt stand driving it.. The Hemi is an automatic but its got the 4.10 gears and it out performs the ford any day of the week..
Try looking up facts and figures . Slight variations but Ford V10 457 foot lbs of torque at 3300 rpm. Hemi is 375 at 4400 RPM. It gets better at higher rpm.The Turd 360 at its best is 360 torque.Several years it was lower. I couldn't find the Rpm in the quick look up I did.
A Hemi is putting down maybe 255 to the wheels... Thats HP.. A 360 is putting out 245.. At the wheels.. Torque for a Hemi.. 336... The 360 torque was 335.... Not much difference there.. My 360 gets better gas mileage than an 06 and 08 Hemi... Then again what exactly would I know right?? I have towed with many different vehicles.. to me and alot of others I have talked to the ford is junk.. The Hemi Handles it alot better.. Not just in my eyes but others who have been with me or ever towed with both...
Oh yea cant forget to add.. It beats out the 04 Hemi in MPG to....

I honestly don't believe in looking up those stats...Not when your trying to buy a truck or what it needs you to do.
Those ratings are most likely generated by a computer that is connected to a motor probably not even in the truck. Its sitting on its stand and they are reading it without exhaust and the whole computer system. Yes it could be a better motor stats wise, but once you actually put it in the truck it could change.
Look at the 6.7 cummins. Its stats are AMAZING when you look at the stats. But when you drive the truck, its a hog. I'm sorry to say but but the same trailer with a duramax will out do it in every aspect. Yet the stats on the cummins are better. NOW throw a tuner on that baby and that truck wakes up! You just run it on a stock setting and its a whole new truck. Throttle response is better, mileage is better, basically everything is better.
Get in and drive the truck, only then will know how its gonna perform...

In the days of the Dodge 360, I was a Ford guy so I know squat abought the 360 in comparison to he hemi, and yes, thier wase hemi marketing at play in my dession to give dodge a try.
AS a ex ford guy, Ford sucks donky water in every way shape on fourm with the triton line of engines, I prefer the 5.7 hemi in all 345 hp and perhaps the 4rth gen hemi will power my next dodge or chrysler car or truck.
5.4 ford in 2v and the dumb 3v configuration and the Ford V10 use more flue than a hemi, I have every day expireance with all four of thease engines and hands down the hemi is the winner.
AS for Stats, I agree with Nate 769, any one can recite thease at will to power thier cause, If your in the Ford camp, Dodge stable, or on the GM band wagon I totaly can repect that, even thow I have nothing positive to say with Ford Triton V8s and the V10.

But the 360 puts down 200 hp at the rear wheels and 250 torque at the rear wheels.
And I believe gas mileage is damn close between the two.
I am a diehard Dodge man. I have had many in various configurations from a 1965 3/4 ton with a first gen 354 hemi 4 bbl to a 1/2 ton with a 440 4bbl and now on my 3rd 5.7 hemi with several 318 or 360s in between and will say definitively without a doubt that the 318/360 line of motors were unbelievably dependable, almost indestructible and with the right gears will do anything a normal 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck should do. That being said the 65 was the strongest truck I ever had but had 4.56 gears, the 73 440 was the fastest, my 82 318 miser was the most dependable and best on gas and the newer 5.7 hemis are probably the best all around trucks. The 360 even in the performance trucks won't touch the 5.7s on performance. These newer trucks are tuned and geared such that they are kind of handicapped trying to keep the fuel mileage up but they will scream if you keep the RPMs up. The older motors were geared and tuned for work if the new ones were tuned and geared similarly it would be great and probably not hurt the fuel mileage much especially here in the mountains. Now that I have went on and on and made everyone mad at me I will say I have driven them all but won't own anything but a Dodge and the bottom line is for power you need gears, cubic inches and diesel if you can afford it and plan to work it.
Don't get me wrong I'm not trashing any of the motors except the ford motors.. but this guy wants to tell me the 318/360 line of motors is junk he is an idiot.. my 92 with a 318 is indestructible.. my 360 in my 2000 is a workhorse... I like the Hemi don't get me wrong but my truck has outworked mostly all the Hemis I have come across... And I have a feeling when I drop my 4.56's in I won't want to go back to the Hemi neither.. they aren't as great as what this guy is saying... My old 360 gets better gas mileage than 3 different Hemis I know... He's just tooting his own horn cause he internet dick is swollen and thinks he knows it all... I'm gonna fall back to my side of the forum now where there isn't someone who thinks they know it all.

Please, what stats does the 6.7 Cummins have that are "AMAZING" and better than the Duramax?? You mean, the lower power?
And a tuner on a stock setting waking it up? (*shakes head*)
The Duramax (current LML) is rated at 397hp/756trq. Current Cummins 6.7 is 350hp/800trq. That extra horsepower combined with the V8 architecture will walk the Cummins every day of the week, empty or loaded. The Ram will get its a$$ handed to it. Everyone knows that. That 397hp/756trq will also walk the 400hp/800trq 6.7 Powerstroke, all day every day. The Duramax is a running SOB.
It also gets better mileage than the 6.7 Cummins does and has a better transmission backing it.
