whos pulling a fifth wheel
im lookin at a 2010 and a 2011 ram 1500 both with the 5.7 hemi. my question is how does the link rear end hold up and any controll issues vs the leaf sprung 3rd gen? also wonder what kind of mpg i would get, my fifth wheel is about ten grand loaded.
10k your going to maxed out with no wiggle room with a 1500. I passed on really nice 5th wheels that weighed 7500 and I'm glad I did. Buy you a leftover 12 Diesel. Rear suspension is not a issue. I have no air bags. But the whole truck feels maxed out. I get 10.7 every time I pull and just about every tank. Thats in Mid Ga. to middle all over Florida. Never been in the mountains or north with it.

that's what im worried about, the difference between advertised capacity vs someone who is actually pulling something is totally two different thing, I would rather go with real world info. the ten grand weight would never be reached with my fifth wheel, that's all tanks full lp full and every compartment full o s@#t. we will see what I can find. thanks for your input hounddogg!
1500 truck is the wrong truck for any trailer towing over 7,000 lbs, and some one will say they tow 10,000 lbs in their 1500 truck, but bear in mind, thats at the max tow ratting and all your doing is putting your pretty truck on a quick road to the killing fields..
You have 0 safety net at max tow capacity, and I would bet max trailer tow rattings are caculated on flat ground, add a 3% grade and your truck is now handicapped..
CTD will tow a ram towing a fith wheel and atain better towing mpg than the ram towing a fith wheel.. say abought 15 mpg

The 09 hemi is the same in hp in the 2500 or the 1500, now depending on the build date of the 2500, the 09 may have the 345 hp hemi, on the fourh gen 390 hp hemi the air intake, air box asembly is not identical to the 3rd gen hemi ( 3rg gen runs into the right side under the hemi hat) frth gen is in front of the hemi hat.

I would not buy a 2500 GAS RAM. Nor G.M. Diesel yes. But not gas. Best towing, driving gas burner out there is Ford with V10. I'm not even sure if the V10 is still in the Ford lineup. There are a LOT of those out there and people like them a lot. Lot more torque down low then a Hemi. Hemi is not but 345 cubic inch. Its going to buzz towing 10k. Just me. Id be looking at Ford V10s. To bad RAM dosen't have the V10. Those older ones are a smooth pulling full of torque down low son of a guns.

If you go to the RAMTrucks.com web site right now you can see that the 5.7L Hemi is rated and described differently between models. It shows 383HP/400lb-ft for the 2500 and 395HP/407lb-ft for the 1500, along with MDS.
