got the pinion nut/rear end recall in the mail today....
You will notice in the recall that it does not state anywhere that you are NOT supposed to drive the vehicle. I think the Term they are worried about more than death is LOSS OF USE. If Dodge told me not to drive the truck until it was fixed, then they better give me a loaner truck. I am still pretty puzzled by the fact they state that there are no parts to fix the issue, yet they are still building new trucks. Are the new trucks using different parts than the '09's?
Why can't they pull parts off the line if it is such a safety issue? Get these trucks fixed and then go back to building new ones. NHTSA needs more complaints sent their way. These trucks are still on the road and still dangerous to other motorists as well as the owners and drivers of the trucks in question. Maybe they are hoping the '09's do crash so they can get rid of some of the lifetime powertrain warranties that are out there....

I got my recall before Christmas stating that parts will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
The first quarter has come and gone
I haven't driven the truck since I got the recall in December because I need to protect myself and my family from any potential "catastophic failure"
I don't mind paying the monthly payments, insurance and registration for a vehicle that is unsafe to drive, because I know that dodge is working diligently with MY best interest in mind, sparing NO expanse to ensure that I get my vehicle repaired and back on the road in the most timely matter possible.
I don't mind my warranty period wasting away month by month while my truck sits parked because I know dodges utmost concern is the safe care and well being of each one of their valuable customers.
I feel confident that leaving my truck parked, out of service, is the best possible option because if there were ANY possible temporary fix available or any alternative option dodge would be on it offering it to all owners of the affected recall vehicles.
We should all be thankful for the faithful team at dodge, working relentlessly, without rest to establish a repair procedure for this issue.
Hats off to you Dodge.

And I'd like to point out, in contrast that nowhere in the recall letter does it state that the vehicle is safe, for continued use. Obviously there's no way dodge could issue loaners to all owners affected so it seems that they are trying to remove some of the liablity from themselves by letting owners make their own decision, kind of like: "we told them there was issues and they continued to use the vehicle" type of defense statement.
Fact of the matter is these pinion nuts ARE failing and collisions and near misses are occurring all over north America, it's only a matter of time until a fatality occurs because of the manufactures negligence.
It's not very comforting to know that dodge is willing to engage in a game of "Russian roulette" by allowing these trucks to travel up and down our interstates at high speeds, towards each other knowing that failure may be immenent on either one or both of the trucks.
Regarding the new trucks coming off the assembly line, I believe some 2012 models are being included in the recall, not sure about any 2013s but if dodge is continuing to produce and sell these trucks with parts that are known to be defective it's a vey stong indicator of how concerned they are about the issue and how seriously they take motor vehicle safety and the safety of their consumers.

Chrysler sent the letter out because.
"in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act"
The notice also states defect "exists in some"
Personally, I am going to drive the truck.

What about EricR, Arvada, Cmerritt84, laramie09, mumbojumbo22, and all the other owners who have already experienced a failure?? would you have given them the same advice?
There are documented crashes occurring and your about to personally tell people they'll be fine?
Obviously people continue to drive, as we see them on the road everyday. it just doesnt seem like it should take this long to get a repair proceedure done, unless their purpousfully dragging their feet to see what happens.
The whole "seriousness" of a recall kinda seems like a joke to me.
There are many documented cases of people being t-boned at intersections, far more than that of rear end failures in RAMs.
Should we all ride bikes and leave our trucks at home because this "could" and it more likely to happen than a rear end failure?
I am not saying it is 100% not going to happen to anyone else, I am just saying the odds are so small compared to all the other things that could happen while driving, that you shouldn't park your truck waiting for a resolution. Just my thoughts, if you want to park your truck, go for it I guess.
