Default Should Hemi engine smell when trailering

I am new to Dodge, coming out of a GMC. Just purchased the Ram 1500 4x4 with a Hemi engine, 2013. When hooked to the trailer is smells like burning metal anytime I go up an incline. Is this normal? Will it go away? I am hauling 6,000 pounds, way under the 10,000 limit. I have a 6 hour haul next weekend, it will be the first time using the Ram other than around the block. I would appreciate any insight. Ram is 1 month old.

Welcome to DF.

I wonder if its just the exhaust getting hotter for the first time? Not sure. The 4th gen section will have more insight, moving you there now.

Many thanks. I have never participated in a forum before and I'm more than lost. I don't think it's the exhaust as the smell is accompanied by tremendous heat coming into the cabin. Thanks for moving the post to the appropriate place.

If you have heat coming into the cab and your heater is not ON. you really should take your truck into the dealer.

Did you look at your Catayic converters? Sounds like they are getting hot. I would think that would throw some heat up, but man they would have to be cherry red....That or your tranny is getting hot. Did you look at all the temps on the EVIC?

Not sure if this "link" stuff works from one site to another but, here goes. Check out this chart. If you have a DIC and your trans temps stay over 200 for any length of time, I would get it checked or install an auxillary cooler if your truck doesn't already have one.

I have a 2012 and I started towing my trailer over a mountain pass after only a few thousand miles on the truck. I have the tow package with the extra cooler already, and my transmission temps never went high (I can see the temps in the little screen), I never smelled anything nor experienced any heat in the cab. I was going over the pass at around 65 or 70 pulling a full bed, plus a 5k pound trailer and 6 people total. Never experienced what you've got going on.

I could not find any cases involving the symptoms as described here. Please let us know what the dealership says about this issue.
