I think it is true that a number of things have been replaced by technicians, but if you read all of the posts on this it wasn't always successful. There are two distinct common symptoms that contribute to noise in the valve train on the 5.7 Hemi. Some have had a noise issue resolved, but it turned out to be a worn timing chain tensioners and/or the chain.

The problem associated with the MDS coast down noise is something different. I, and a few others, had the lifters, solenoids replaced. On my 2010 they even changed a head. Like others, the symptom eventually returned. On mine it took almost 18,000 miles. After some research, I found that camshafts were replaced for MDS problem as well.

Of the two that I know had a true MDS coast down issue, both were resolved by (finally) replacing the Cam Phaser.

Good luck with the repair of yours. Let us know how it turns out.

Best regards,
Dusty

Longtime lurker here. I've had the same issue on my 2011 for the past year and its been driving me crazy trying to figure out what and how much is needed to fix. Well two weeks ago my truck went into 'Limp Mode' and would not get out of 4th. Took it to a transmission shop who diagnosed a bad Trans Solenoid Pack and recommended a beefier accelerator plate. Note that the ticking noise was never discussed as I thought it was a engine issue. So with new fluid and filters the total came to 1000 so obviously I was super bummed but i'll be god damned if I haven't heard the ticking once since then. Only driven approx 600 miles so I will try update.

Haven't seen any updates on this in a while. I have a 2011 Dodge 5.7L with the same issue as described above. As with a lot of the other users the ticking sound disappears in 3 situations:
1. When in tow haul mode
2. When slowing down and hitting around that 15km/h (10mph) mark
3. When in manual shift mode.

Anyone have any additional feedback?

Hi laker220,

Did your dealership ever address the ticking for you?

I have put about 10,000 miles on my 2010 and it really hasn't ever affect the drivability it's just annoying sound . It's actually pretty embarrassing. I haven't considered taking it to a dealership so I would imagine it's going to cost about $1000 and I'm not willing to pay that

I've got just over 92k on my 2010 1500. I bought it with 25 miles on it. The ticking started around the 50k mark (if I remember right.) I haven't noticed any performance issues with the ticking. I had the dealership look at it once. They replaced some broken head bolts, which are part of an issue with this gen rams apparently. That didn't solve the tick. I thought maybe bearings on a pulley. Nothing seems to be amiss there either. At this point I'm just chalking it up to the "Hemi Tick" and ignoring it.

Yep, know that "normal" sound well. Typically generated when the vehicle is out of warranty, which should imply to the owner/customer that it's just too old for us (FCA) to give a hoot about. "Sux to be you but, hey, we got a great deal on a new truck for ya!"

Does it rattle too? For example: Is the issue considered well-defined "ticking" or is there a bit of a rattling component to the nuisance noise?
