So I'm in the dealership having my truck serviced. The salesman walks up and asks if he can help me. Sure I say, lets check out some '13 Ram 1500's. I tell him that I'm not even interested in a truck that is less optioned than my '09. I go on to tell him what my '09 has.

What does he show me...almost the exact opposite. I repeated my statement. The next truck he shows me, same damn thing in a different color. WTF???

Dude, how hard is it to understand?

Finally, he shows me a 4x4 w/ the touchscreen. Do you think he knows how to use it? NO! I managed to figure it out after 2 minutes of messing with it.

I asked him about the active grill louvers (just to see what he would say), his statement "I think they open and close depending on the weather".

It's a shame, I'm loyal enough that I would not buy from another dealer. But ****, this guy was an idiot!

The only advantage this dealer has is the fact that the other one is full of a$$holes. The guy owns 10, I think, dealerships in the area. The Dodge dealership is the only one they don't advertise for. It's like he could care less if they sell any. Most of his advertising goes towards his Ford and Hyundai dealerships.

Slightly off topic, but do the new trucks still have MDS? If so, even with the 8-speed? A co-worker of mine just bought a 2013 Laramie with the 8-speed. That thing is so smooth shifting it's ridiculous. I've only rode with him a couple of times, but not once did I notice the exhaust note changing as it went into MDS and he says he hasn't noticed any lights on the dash kicking on to say MDS was turning on at any point.

I do agree that new car salesmen should do there own research on at least the current years models. know what packages go with each vehicle, know whats standard, and whats optional, for god sake, they are there to sell cars/trucks its is there job to know and would make them a better salesmen. I once went to a new car lot in San Antonio and when i pulled up, i dont go inside, i wait for salesmen to come see me. after 5 min a man came out and asked if i was helped, i said i was looking for a mustang. so i already knew what i wanted, but started to ask him questions to get a feel of how he knows the cars. all he knew was it was the different models names (V6, GT, Boss) but he did not know what was different about them. then I started to explain the differences, even whats different from last years models. He offered me a job on the spot, lol, but since San Antonio is 2 hours from where i live, i turned him down.

for the service techs, they are not going to know every little thing about every car/truck. (I am a auto tech by trade). as long as u have a advanced knowledge of how car/trucks work, and have a manual for the type you are working on, the tech should be able to figure it out. there are times where you have problems that are not in the manual, and you have to use your personal experience to figure it out. there has been times it has taken me weeks to figure out electrical problems, because, out of the thousands of cars, models, and years, you can never know everything about every car. just because a cars body or appearance has not changed from year to year, i can guarantee the electrical is different.

Yes. They do have MDS. The little green light is turned off by default. Have him go into settings on UCONNECT and turn the ECO light on.

Default Car salesmen

Finding a good car salesman is a flip of the coin. I shopped them all before I bought my RAM.

Toyota. The salesman looked like he belonged to a gang at one point in time. He did not say much about the technical features of the truck. I guess they don't have many.

Ford. The salesman kept on trying to sell me on the looks of the truck, but did not offer much details on the technology. He tried to convice me that a Raptor could tow my 9000 lb travel trailer. I knew this was BS.

GM. The salesman was fair. He offered some details on the technology. Better than Ford. Actually he was pretty good.

Dodge. The salesman mentioned all of the high tech details of the truck. He was the best of the bunch. I did stump him on turning on the ECO light, but he offered all of the details about what the RAM 1500 does to save MPG.
He was their top seller for the dealership. I am sure that the dealership has others that are not as good.

I think that you have to do some homework. I spent hours upon hours comparing features of GM, Ford, and Dodge trying to figure out which one was best for me. I spent hours online asking questions of the experts at each of the GM, Dodge, Toyota, and Ford web sites. I would go online and build and price what I wanted in a Ford, GM, Dodge, Toyota and RAM.

I guess I haven't got much of an opinion on any car sales guy. The way we buy cars is to go online, do all the research and then contact the online sales guy to get a price, drive to dealership to fill out the paperwork and leave.

When I bought my Ram I think I was at the dealership for a grand total of 30 minutes, my wife's car was even quicker since they had all the paperwork done when we got there.

About 2 years ago my son and I were out looking at vehicles for him. We stopped at a Toyota dealership to check out the Tacoma's.

That guy was the most knowledgeable salesman I've ever met. He opened every door/panel he could and described everything. I bet that guy talked about that truck for 40 minutes, and never once did he stumble.

Toyota has a superstar in that guy!
