Chain noise while coasting.

I noticed my 11 ram crewcab is also making the same noise. Have a appointment made for next Tues at dodge dealer but I'm skeptical that they will be able diagnose the problem as they have never heard make that noise they said. And they probably will not listen to my suggestions I'm sure. I read the big thread from the link above and it does sound like a rattling timing chain or in that area. Hopefully the dealer can diagnose it. I'll post a link of video shortly.

So got the truck back from the dealer yesterday. They fixed it but dnot know which of the 2 things fixed it. They noticed I had a cheap filter and don't know what kind of oil I had in it. So they use wynns engine flush and then did a fresh oil change. Also theres a bulletin out for the mds system for a drone or vibration noise which mine did not really sound like. But going around 40 or 50 km/h I do not hear the noise on the buildings. I'll keep it updated if it comes back or not

What you are describing is an MDS noise

I suggest you read all of the entries. A number of people had this issue and a lot of things were changed, but I've become convinced that unless the timing chain and/or chain tensioners are seriously worn, it is probably the Cam Phaser.

What was it mine is doing it.
Hey guys , ive got a 2011 hemi. Basically what happens is if there is no strain on the motor and I have my windows down I can hear a ticking sound very similar to a bicycle coasting without pedaling As soon as I touch the gas it dissapears. Also no tick at idle, And Putting the transmission in the TRS mode and driving in 5th gear, no sound at coast down.
Selecting Tow/Haul mode, no sound at coast down.
Putting the transmission into neutral, the sound disappears.
In normal driving mode the sound disappears at around 1200 RPM regardless of road speed.
The common factor with all four is the MDS. (MDS is off in neutral, Tow/Haul mode, TRS mode, and at or just above idle. I specifically watched the ECO indicator and sure enough when the ECO indicator goes off on coast down, the noise disappears.
some of people say its the timing chain tensioner or the timing belt chain itself and some say its the camshaft, or MDS lifters.

please am hopeless dealerships cant figure it out everytime they tell me somethin.
