Default transmission problem

My 2012 Ram p/u has a 5.7 L and 6 speed automatic with 51K miles. Several days ago it started shifting erratically: hard shifts, downshifts while cruising, no shifting at all, etc. Fluid level was good. My trans shop ran a diagnostic scan which showed a bunch of code errors: P1794,P0786 (or maybe it's P8786), P0933, P0732, P0138, P0734, P0721, P0734, P032 (?), P0716 and P0721. The check engine light also stays on. He said this many error codes probably indicated a bad computer which should be covered by Dodge's 8 year, 80,000 mi. warranty. I took the truck to Dodge and they said it either looks like it could be a solenoid pack or maybe an entire transmission. Ca-ching, ca-ching! When I got back to the trans shop he cleared the codes, then he and I took it for a test drive while I held the diagnostic reader. It still shifted like crap but his time only the P0933 code came up. Any thoughts on the matter?

If it is possibly covered under warranty, I would let dodge have a look, and see what they have to say.

I did take it to Dodge. They suggested I change the solenoid pack and if that doesn't work they suggested either rebuild the transmission or replace it. The computer is covered by warranty but they said that is not the problem. I was hoping someone here had the same unfortunate problem and how it was corrected. Maybe I'll try another dealer.

Problem appears to be solved. Trans shop replaced solenoid pack and now shifts fine.

Hello motthollow,

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with your transmission. If you do decide to take it to another dealer, feel free to send us a direct message. We'd be glad to get this over to a Case Specialist to work with you while you're in service.
