Default Random occasional headlight failure

Approximately 2 years ago I upgraded my 2011 SLT's halogens with LED's and have not had any issues other than perhaps the expected radio static. A few weeks ago I was driving home when the headlights suddenly shut off. They then immediately blinked (a very short blink) about 4 times (1 or 2 seconds apart) before staying off. After shutting the ignition off for a minute or so they started working again. This has happened several more times since then, although the time required for the ignition to be shut off seems to be longer than before.
Sometimes it happens when first starting the engine and before actually driving; a few "blips" and then nothing. Sometimes they don't even give the "warning" blink. Fortunately my factory fog lights always continue to work so I can cripple it home when necessary, but it makes me nervous to do so as they certainly don't light up the road as well as the headlights.
Last night it again happened, so immediately upon getting home I used the diagnostic feature of AlfaOBD to test the headlights. AlfaOBD was able to turn both of the high and both of the low beams on and off repeatedly. After doing this test I again verified that they still would not turn on via the headlight switch. Then, as is typical, after several minutes of the ignition being shut off they started working normally again.
Any ideas?
Does it sound logical that the headlight relay could be starting to fail?

If your scanner can control the relay properly, but the switch does not... I would be looking at the switch circuit.

Aftermarket headlights? I tried a pair of expensive LED headlights a little while back. Looked good and I liked the concept but their actuall product was pure garbage. Lighting was awesome but constant failure issues. After doing more research, after the fact, I found out they've been having problems with both the first and second versions of the headlight for years so I demanded my money back. If they've known about the issue for years and still can't rectify the matter then they shouldn't even be sellling them IMO. The lights? AlphaRex. Again, pure garbage!!

But what would be the odds of them both behaving identically at the same time? And they might work fine for several days before deciding to act this way once or twice.

What brand are they and is there any connection between the two? The Alpharex connected to each other and they also would go out briefly from time to time.

They were simply bulb replacements that I bought on Amazon and they use the existing factory wiring. I don't remember the brand but they got consistently good reviews.

Gotcha. Have you tried to put the original type of bulb back in to test?

Intermittent electrical issues are a PITA to diagnose.

No, I figured since they work 95% of the time and because they both act up at the same time it's probably not the bulbs. Not to mention the hassle of pulling the front of the truck off to get to them.

Well, LEDs lights do not play well with others so you'll need to start digging into some diagnostics with a meter.
