Unhappy 2012 Ram 1500 Sport, Misfire/Serv 4WD

A year ago I had replaced the camshaft and lifters in my 5.7 (vin T). Fast forward I get a check engine light for a misfire in cylinder 7. I replaced the spark plugs and the coil. The code turned into Several misfires, and then slowly began to have a constant Serv 4WD. The engine rattles and wants to give up until it hits 3rd. I took it to a dealership and they want 15k to replace the engine. There are only 161,000 miles on the truck and hopefully someone out there can help give better advice.

What codes are you getting now? Done a compression test?

The codes I’m getting are P0300 (Multiple cylinder misfire), P0113 (Intake air temp sensor 1), P0307 (cylinder 7 misfire).

im honestly thinking of re-replacing the coil for cylinder 7. Testing the sensor and then getting a cylinder test kit.

However the 4wd Service light is still on

4wd is going to be a separate problem. Too many little ****ling things can turn that one on.

Swap the coils on 5 and 7. See if the miss follows the coil.

replace the IAT sensor.

The misfire didn’t follow. P0300 & P0307 remain. I had already replaced the spark plugs so I have a feeling it’s a more internal issue. Possibly lifter and Cam related.

I’ll replace the IAT tomorrow

Do a compression test. See what 7 looks like.

Cylinder 7 is reading 180 and compared it to cylinder 5 is reading 160.

Thinking of getting a rebuild kit for the engine

Those numbers look fine, a rebuild would be a waste of money.

What spark plugs do you have in there?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Get rid of those first. Some standard copper plugs. Dodge engines are notorious for not liking the rare earth plugs.
