BEst subs
Okay, I came in late to this event obviously. I worked in a couple different audio shops through high school. A w7 is an all around great sub it is a competition sub but almost any JL Audio sub is setup so that it has great sound quality. Yes you pay for this quality but I think it is worth it. Kicker you are running the same type thing, they are a comp type sub but still carry a fairly good sound range and quality. You want good quality bass run a set of w3V2 JL 12's you will have plenty of lowup to mid range bass, and it will be as tight as you want it to be. If you are going for a small frequency range, go with a ported box, you want a one note wonder build a bandpass box, a good all around box is to stick with a sealed box. Now if you buy JL's they make premade boxes that are the best you can run their subs in. I currently run two W3V2 15's JLs in my durango and it sounds great. If I want bass I can crank up the boost for it, if I want sound quality run the bass a little low and it will produce almost any note that I want it to. I hope that answers your questions. If anyone has a comment to what is above, yes I am JL bias, but for good reason it is good ****. I have always run JL because I spent my time looking around and it is the best that I came up with.

Here is a link to 12volt.com.
And a short quote from the site
Basically 4th order/ported/vented are all the same. As long as the port volume is the same it can be any shape. I have seen round pvc, triangle shaped, square and I have 2 rectangualr ones on my TREO SSi(+9.98db @38hz). Tuning is VERY important. This is why the prefabbed boxes have the tube almost touching the rear of the box to be trimmed. The single tube port generally whistles like a SOB. On the above 12volt link, there is a port length calc. The inputs are Port size(round only), box volume and tuning freq. I had my box pro built and went with 38hz because I listen to rock mostly and didnt want the +10db spike within the normal freqs. I will throw in a 30-40hz sweep when I compete this spring/summer.
I personally love my TREO. I have had Kicker, Alpine, JBL, Boston and umm old MTX in days gone by. It all depends on what you are looking for. If a lil more bass, I have found that a sealed box is the better choice. If you want to rattle every bolt off the car, then ported is the better choice. I had 2 Alpine S 10's in a sealed box with 250w on them and they were good for 129db. Then I went to a single Treo TSi 12" to make some room, but then found a more powerful amp. The TSi smoked even though they were rated at the same RMS(the Alpine amp actually was underrated in the specs). Then stepped up to the Treo SSi but the amp was under powered. Then went with a chassis matched Amp (and more powerful) so I now have looks and better matched speaker/amp setup. I stuck with a single 12" because I will be competing in Street A which has the limitation of 2 10's or a single 12".
Going back to the orginal theme of the post, opinions are like ********. Most are based off of personal experiences. There are the lucky few people who have the luxury of working at stereo shops with good knowledge. But the "you dont know what you are talking about" and the "Brand X is crap" doesnt help pass any info. If you think a brand is garbage, then say why you think it is. Calling someone stupid or saying they dont know what they are talking about, immediately turns off the ears. There is a shop here that I asked about a brand and the only response was "you dont want that, they are garbage". When I asked him why, all I got was the deer in the headlight look. Needless to say I don't go there. When I asked at the current shop I go to, I was shown that the TREO doesnt bottom out by spider design where as the Alpine would. What stunk was that I wanted to keep the system all Alpine.
Wow talk about rambling!! haha

A fourth order enclosure (vented box) is a sealed enclosure with the additon of a port tuned to a specific frequency. The port extends the low frequency response of the basic sealed enclosure usually providing a lower cut-off frequency. The enclosure offers a good transient response (second to that of a sealed enclosure), good power handling within it's bandpass region, and excellent efficiency making it a popular choice for many competitors and everday users, but below the tuned frequency power handling is poor and damage to the woofer is likely to occur if over driven. Lowering the port frequency below that of the manufacturer's recommended frequency will only worsen matters and cause the sound to become "muddy"....bleah!
With any ported design enclosure, the largest port diameter or area should be used to minimize port noises (or whistling). Flaring the edges of the port is also recommended for the same reasons. Ports may be any shape, but a cyclinder is usually the easiest to incorporate into your design.

i don't even know how i found this place but i did. i don't own a dodge, nor will i ever. i hate american cars period...but what i do love is car audio, and this forum is utter blasphemy to the hobby.. YOU PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! JL IS NOT THE BEST! badstrat...SHUT UP. midnightblue...SHUT UP, you fools don't know anything when it comes to ICE. ngsm doesn't know everything but he certainly knows more than all of you put together...as do i lol. God help America's working class...
knowing stuff about a stereo, as you will find when you grow up, means nothing...but congrats...i couldnt care any less about how hard your system hits, and neither does 95% of the rest of the world...youre really not impressing anyone, kid.
Excuse me for expressing my opinion about JL's, I just happen to love them, as they have lasted forever, banged hard and given me no problems what so ever... so sue me... And excuse me for expressing my disliking of ngsm's assness...
to each his own on the jbl's, cuz i dont think they are worth anything either. i personally have been running kicker's for the last 8 years.
having worked in a shop myself ive seen alkinds of problems with all kinds of speakers. but very little of kicker. the four that i have now have been eating 550 watts apiece for 4 or 5 years now, and they wont quit. and yes i know to some people its time to renew and get new ones but these comp vr's are awesome. memphis audio makes a good sub too. stay away from rockfords, they arent what they used to be. 10 years ago i would tell you go with them but not now. jl makes decent subs and have heard some good things from them. when talking speakers and what hits harder its like saying my dad can beat up your dad.
