Lightbulb Dash Mods For Tablet

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my 88' Dakota dash. After I remove the head-deck the ashtray might as well go too, then that vent/grill below is completely false it does nothing and there is space behind it however I don't think I will be touching it (no need). I do want to cut out the dash from the top of the head-deck blacked out section down to the ashtray.

With the dash cut out I could scoot a tablet in a few inches and that is including an upward tilt, still be flush with dash. The tablet in the photo is obviously oversized but it gives you an idea, just imagine it pushed in and smaller...I have 11" of dash width for a tablet.

For those who need an explanation I want to run a tablet as my DAC wired directly to my amplifier(s) since all my cab speakers are amped separately anyway, I could even find a way to use the AM/FM antenna as a WiFi antenna!

You should get one of those 7 inch android tablets and then get Android Torque that weedahoe shown on his youtube channel here is the link.

That would be pretty frickin sweet.

You have the Android Tablets, Ipads with iOS, I have seen some 7 inchers running Linux, Blackberry came out with thier wildly unsuccessful blackberry tablet(I cant remember its name).

Yes I typed this and just realized you put a wink smiley on the end of your comment. Well played I hadn't seen that at first. Give a Computer nerd the time and he will nerd out.

i like tablets i think they are neat but i don't think i would use one either with the big computer and smartphone, my laptop hardly gets used as it is. But I do like the tablet in the dash idea.
If you could figure a way to plug it in on the side usb ports and not have to pull it out and mess with all time, It would be nice to see that app for that device on a large screen rather than a smartphone.

Let me clarify lol you use a docking station in the dash so there is not USB, power, etc connections it's just one plug drop it in and play.

As far as the tablet OS is considered... Window7 all the way I refuse to install some Android piece of crap in my truck. The point of running a tablet in my dash is not just for a large library of music, its also for quality. I do not think these over-sized cell phone sized tablets support high end external USB sound devices, like a 24-bit 96KHz sound card. I would not be storing or playing MP3 files on my tablet, I only use FLAC files something that the Android OS probably can not even play!

I have my eye on the Dell Duo 10.1" tablet, I am a computer goober so I want a full PC in my truck anyway for if I am somewhere and need to get something done. There are not many tablet notebook conversions on the market but I will find something.

Im not trying to convince you to get one but just saying they are some of the most powerful devices out on the market right now. New quad cores are out in 2012. Full 1080 HDMI, full GPS (not aGPS), massive internal storge as well as SD card and host USB support, over clocking abilities, tons of software for flexibilty, full networking capailities, can be controlled and reset remotely......

The list goes on and on.....pick one up and get serious with me and learn the ins and outs of it and i bet you will disregard that 7 tablet.

If NOTHING ELSE, look at how Windows versus Android handles memory and process resources and memory managment. Again, no more red edit. No more msconfig, No more memory managers.

Trust me, i came WiMo devices and Android is SO much easier. They most certainly can play FLC (lossless) with add on software much like WiMo devices. There are a lot of things a STOCK unit cant do out of the box no matter what the OS. But with Android there are no more crashing or fragmented drives or need to reg edit.

If you really think about it, there is a clear reason why so many other people use Android devices over WiMo devices. Sure you still go your hardcore die hard WiMo fans and thats cool but trusty me, from a guy who grew up on Windows and started with a Palm and went to a Toshiba 2032 WiMo device all the way up to WiMo 6.5, after swithing to Android, you couldnt give me a windows tablet
