Default 2009 Speaker Upgrade

I'm wanting to upgrade my stock speakers, but keep the stock head unit. I'm not looking to install subs or anything like that, just looking for a little clearer sound. I'm looking for any install advice. I'm sure plenty of people have done this so I'm just curious if there are any hiccups people ran into or anything I should be aware of before I start this. Thanks in advance.

I'm about to do this in my 06, but replacing head unit and adding subs. Make sure the speakers fit! mounting depth is important, but so is mounting height! Also, spend the extra money to get the speaker harness adapter. Lots easier than splicing, crimping, soldering etc. Don't by from crutchfield, but do use them for research, then buy off amazon. I saved over $40 on two pairs of speakers, and $50 on my head unit.

Yeah that's exactly what I've been doing. Looking on crutchfield to see what's good and what will fit, then checking at amazon. I buy everything from amazon. What's the harness for? I was just going to disconnect the old speakers and connect the new ones. I don't plan on swapping out the speaker wire. How important is it that the ohms are the same?

The speaker harness adapter allows your aftermarket speakers to plug into your factory harness without having to splice, crimp, solder etc. you hook up one end to your speakers, other end plugs straight into factory harness. Need that unless you want to replace factory wires. When you are asking about the ohms matching, can you specify further? The ohms between the sets of speakers? Between speakers and head unit?

Are the wires soldered onto the factory speakers? I guess they probably are. As far as the ohms, like if a speaker is a 4 ohm speaker, do I necessarily need to replace it with another 4 ohm speaker or can I replace it with an 8 or 2 ohm speaker? I forget which ones I was looking at, but the speakers I wanted to buy weren't the same ohms as the factory ones. I'm not sure this matters, just wondering since I'm not replacing the factory head unit.

No, the wiring harness has a plug which plugs into factory speakers. You can get the wiring adapter, plug one end into the factory harness, and clip the the other end into your speaker. No need to cut wires or make any mods to factory harness.

The ohms of your new speakers need to be in range of the head unit. For example, my head unit supports between 4 and 8 ohms, so I bought 4 ohm speakers. You do not want to buy speakers outside of the head unit range. I'm not sure what the range is on the factory unit. I am sure there is some information out there on the factory unit. You should start with calling dodge to see what they can tell you, as well as search the forums.

Buying speakers that the impedance (ohms) matches the head unit, as well as the speaker wire adapters will be your easiest, fastest, and simplest way to only upgrade your speakers.

I concur. I bought KS 6.5inch coax's for the back doors, and DS6.5 comps for the front doors, mounting my tweets in the corner of the door panel where the side view mirror is. With the addition of my kenwood excelon, they sound fantastic. Also just installed two 10's in my truck this evening. Unfortunately, the subs I already had were just a little too big in diameter to fit in the any of the boxes I tried, so I ended up having to buy new subs that would fit the box that fit my truck, so I went with a pair of kicker CompVT's to round it out. I figured having all of my speakers including the subs one brand would help to keep the quality pretty close, so that I didn't end up with mismatched speakers. They all sound great and I'm very pleased with how it sounds without adjusting any settings (had to d/c battery to install amp, and it reset the head unit). Tomorrow going to run through all the settings on the head unit, and adjust the settings on my amp to the new unit, and new speakers. but so far, I am very pleased.
